Cambridge, United Kingdom University of Cambridge Full time

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 2 years in the first instance.

This is an exciting opportunity to join teams from the University of Cambridge and the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (UKCEH) to work on solutions to the climate and biodiversity crisis.

In this role, you will contribute towards field data collection across greenhouse gas (GHG) monitoring sites in the Fens. You will work with flux towers and measurement sensor networks to conduct surveys of GHG and water balance and will support scientists in the management, analysis and publication of research.

You will be an integral part of the group of Chiara Giorio at the Yusuf Hamied Department of Chemistry, working closely with Ross Morrison from the Land Surface Science Group (Flux Observations Team) at UKCEH.

You will engage with stakeholders from across the agricultural, NGO(?) and policy sectors, and contribute to scientific analyses and publications advancing research in this area.

In this role you will:

- Be the point of contact for and with farmers, NGOs and landowners across the Fens including about fieldwork planned by yourself and by other members of the CLR.
- Complete a field survey of network sites, and conduct regular fieldwork to collect new data on greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), soil water and vegetation and biodiversity.
- Support the operation of flux towers and field experiments to quantify the GHG and water balance of a wide range of peat farmland and nature reserves.
- Be responsible for regular maintenance of equipment on field sites across the Fens, supported by staff from UKCEH
- Create a database of field data and contribute to the analysis and publication of these datasets

Experience working safely in remote outdoor environments is essential, as is a full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to remote field sites all year round.

The Department holds an Athena SWAN silver award for women in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, and Medicine.

The University has a responsibility to ensure that all employees are eligible to live and work in the UK.
