MIB is a not-for-profit organisation at the heart of the fight against uninsured driving. This is a problem that seriously affects the lives of those involved in road accidents and costs millions of pounds every year. We work in partnership with the Police, Insurers and Government to tackle uninsured driving.

The role of Head of Compliance and DPO is to:

- Champion a culture of compliance throughout the organisation to ensure everyone complies with our external regulatory requirements and internal policies and procedures
- Take on the position of Data Protection Officer across the MIB Group and act as the ultimate referral point on all Data Protection and Risk and Compliance matters
- Raise awareness and provide an advisory role for regulatory aspects across MIB ensuring best practice
- Protect the MIB by ensuring that it has systems of internal control that adequately identify measure and manage its compliance risks across all the activities of the MIB
- Manage an independent privacy and compliance function to identify and evaluate risks across the entire organisation and to coordinate and structure privacy and compliance related controls
- Work closely with all areas of the business to develop and maintain a 1st/2nd/3rd line of defence model
- Assess the level of data protection legislation compliance of MIB, putting forward recommendations and corrective measures to enable compliance with the legislation
- Line manager to the staff within the Privacy and Compliance teams
- Ensure that MIB has a Compliance Charter which defines the fundamental principles, roles and responsibilities of the Compliance Function
- Member of the Operational Committee (OpCo), and collectively responsible for the formulation of strategy and supportive business plans for MIB and achievement of these

Key Outputs
- Develop a Compliance Charter and Compliance Policy
- Drive a culture of compliance, including compliance with data protection, throughout MIB
- Create and deliver a compliance programme ensuring that compliance with existing and future policies is maintained
- Work with Customer Services and Database Services to ensure that all new initiatives, projects, services, products, processes and procedures are compliant with legal and regulatory requirements

- Review MIB complaint handling policy and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and manage MIB complaints in accordance with policy and procedures working with the business areas to optimise benefits
- Support the ISS department where appropriate in the maintenance of an Information Security Management System (ISMS) that embraces best practice and compliance with ISO 27001/2
- Liaise closely with OpCo colleagues on compliance and privacy issues that impact upon the Group
- Develop excellent, long-term relationships with key insurance industry representatives
- Maintain an up-to-date awareness of the latest changes across industry. Introduce the latest best practice and thought leadership to enhance MIB’s performance
- Build, lead, coach and retain high performing and cohesive teams to attain each functions objectives and aspirations. Ensuring a focus on performance management, personal development and talent management. Build succession plans, as appropriate
- Establish a robust compliance framework to ensure that the requisite controls operate effectively at MIB
- Drive a positive, proactive and expert privacy & compliance culture that is respected by the business and teaches managers how to own and manage their risks effectively

Qualifications and Education

Skills and Knowledge
- Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
- Holds a relevant risk management qualification
- Holds a relevant data protection qualification
- Experience of working in a regulated environment including experience at senior management level
- Extensive experience in in GDPR, data management/control and data quality/standards (to role requirements)
- Ability to influence decisions at executive management level
- Experience of leading, managing and developing a team, maintain a collaborative and constructive working environment within a department and across the organisation
- Experience of budget management and control
- Ability to manage complex stakeholders and partnering relationships
- Experience of communicating and presenting highly complex information to internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to deal with confidential matters with discretion and tact
- Maintains the highest professional standards to ensure the organisation is not in a position of risk
- Works collaboratively with partners internally and externally to resolve conflicts to acceptable outcome
