Eoc Clinical Navigator
We have vacancies within our Clinical Navigator team in the EOC (Emergency Operations Centre) and are looking for talented individuals. You would be acting in either the upstream or downstream position providing clinical oversight and support to all incidents within a specified area.
Clinical Navigators are a key role within the EOC in ensuring the safety of waiting patients. They will be expected to use a variety of approaches based on the operating context at the time to mitigate any risk those waiting patients might be experiencing. This would include contacting the patient or their representative by phone or video link, considering the ordering of incidents waiting, utilising other providers, and identifying incidents that might benefit from a different response than a double crewed ambulance.
This role is offered as a full-time permanent role. As a department we could consider secondment or rotational roles with operations. We would consider part time working but any reduction in hours or flexibility we could offer would be limited given our operating constraints.
You will be focussed on managing clinical demand pro-actively within the area assigned. This would be working with agreed policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), as well as following guidelines and utilising decision-support tools when necessary. This would be supporting significant experience in urgent and emergency care, ideally with significant pre-hospital experience.
You will support the dispatch team as a clinical specialist allowing them to ensure that resourcing of incidents balances the needs of individual patients, with the need to ensure an effective response across the geographical area; this will require sound clinical decision-making to prioritise the use of resources at times of high demand managing risk in a way that maximises safety.
You will be first point of contact for some of our partner agencies and will need to develop and maintain a strong working relationship with those agencies.
To enable us to meet the future needs for our services we have invested significantly in our Emergency Operations Centre's at Wakefield and York and have embarked on a period of change which is aligning our emergency and urgent care services with those of the wider healthcare economy. Clinical Navigators will be based at both York and Wakefield EOC’s.
This is an exciting opportunity for innovative upcoming clinicians who can demonstrate ambition, continuous professional development and who possess a natural propensity to lead on clinical excellence.
As a Clinical Navigator, you will be an example for all colleagues as a source of advice on best practice and will support decision making for colleagues within EOC, operationally in frontline practice and for partner services and agencies. The ability to support and guide such a wide range of operational colleagues through difficult decisions will be central to the role. The post holder will recognise each interaction via the crew advice line is an opportunity for learning and will approach their duties with clinical supervision and learning at the forefront of their mind.
The Clinical Navigator will contribute to the creation of a clinically focused EOC and an environment in which excellence in clinical care can flourish. You will support EOC staff to practice safely and effectively to meet the standards required.
Support to operational resources (decision making, referral, discharge).
Remote patient assessment.
Clinical advice to YAS staff and other partner agencies.
Clinical support to staff within the EOC as required.
Navigation of incidents to the appropriate service or provider both within and outside of YAS.
Oversight of incidents assessed by call taking staff which may benefit from further clinical scrutiny.
Telephone and video assessment of 999 calls (and IUC calls transferred to 999) in order to determine if the case presentation can be managed away from a 999 response where appropriate.
Clinical support for clinicians experiencing prolonged on scene times due to issues such as referral delays.
Medical Incident Officer (MIO) initial triage and advice.
Assessment of incidents for alternative & specialist resource responses.
Category 1 response support.
To establish and maintain effective working relationships with EOC and operational colleagues.
To establish and maintain an effective relationship with senior clinicians within EOC.
To work closely with colleagues from Dispatch and EMD backgrounds to provide a safe and effective triage and treatment response to all patients.
To establish and maintain productive working relationships with partner agencies and organisations.
Provide clinical support and guidance to meet various staff needs so they can fulfil their operational role.
To promote communication between operational and EOC resources to embed the One Team ethos into practice.
To develop working relationships with colleagues within their own
