The Dietetics team at The Princess Alexandra Hospital has a job opportunity for a Specialist Dietitian, with a focus on gastroenterology. You will have the opportunity to participate in parenteral nutrition rounds alongside a nutrition practitioner and pharmacist, to attend Nutrition MDT, and to develop your line management skills.

If successful, you will be supported with regular clinical supervision sessions, team CPD sessions, shadowing, peer review opportunities and appraisals. The Trust provides a variety of in-house training, for example to develop management skills, and funding for external courses can be applied for.

To lead on dietetic input for patients with gastroenterology diagnoses, take responsibility for the development of the service and provision of specialised dietetic advice to the gastroenterology ward.

To conduct nutritional assessments and to implement individualised, evidence-based treatment plans, including the calculation of nutritional requirements and interpretation of medical information. This will require analysing highly complex, and sometimes conflicting information, liaising with other healthcare professionals, and will include ethical decision making.

To participate in parenteral nutrition rounds, alongside the nutrition practitioner and pharmacist, and to cover other dietitians on this round, in their absence. This will include assessing and monitoring patients referred for parenteral nutrition, making clinical decisions about the appropriateness, making recommendations for prescriptions, and advising on safe administration and routes for parenteral nutrition.

After 6-12 months, to be the line manager to a junior member of staff, which may include inducting a new starter to the Trust, with support. To complete regular clinical supervision sessions and performance reviews.

To lead the dietetic input to weekly Nutrition MDT meetings, attended by a consultant gastroenterologist, Nutrition Practitioner, Speech and Language Therapist and others as required. To attend and participate in other meetings including dietetic, therapies, Trust and clinical team meetings.
