The Recovery Team and Sundry Debts Team are busy and vibrant teams that have the important role of collecting Council Tax/Business Rates and Sundry Debt accounts for the Council.

The two 12 months Fixed Term contract positions will place the successful applicants in one of the two teams.

**About the role**

Working as a key part of the team you’ll be responsible for ensuring that the Council’s revenue and income streams are protected. You’ll be involved in investigation and resolutions of issues, ensuring policies and controls are adhered to, whilst maintaining a professional and empathic approach. The role is within the RG4 Pay scale and it is likely that you will start at the base of RG4 detailed above.

**Key tasks include**:

- Timely and effective Council Tax/Business Rates or Sundry Debtors payment collection.
- Maintaining contact with clients offering advice on welfare benefits and to promote financial and digital inclusion
- Resolving queries both internally and externally
- Updating appropriate reports
- Negotiating repayment plans with clients
- Liaise with and support the wider revenues team
- Provide Advice and Signposting to customers on all aspects of Service provision within the Customer Management Service

**About you**

The following experience is required for this role & the type of person we are looking for
- Ideally a background in Local Authority Council Tax/Business rate or Sundry Debtors collection
- Strong customer focus
- Resilient and confident in approach
- Excellent Written and Verbal communication skills
- Competent in Microsoft Office products, and database software programmes
- Calm, confident manner to handle potentially uncomfortable conversations
