Job description

We are a friendly Debt Advice Team working within Tenant Services. We provide impartial advice and support to both council tenants and any resident of Reading who finds themselves at risk of homelessness.

**About the role**

Main duties include:

- Providing general money advice, completing appointments and casework to prepare a financial statement.
- Reviewing income and outgoings to provide relevant advice and support.
- Explore the client’s debt options and giving full advice for them to make an informed decision.
- Make accurate records of advice given, actions taken, and financial awards made.

**About you**

We are looking for someone with transferable skills to join the team, our aim is to help improve people’s situations and prevent homelessness, full training will be provided.

The following experience will help you to hit the ground running:

- Experience in giving help and advice to the public in some form of advisory capacity in relation to regulations or legislation. Experience of either Housing or Benefits would be an advantage.
- Using your own initiative and judgement to research and solve problems.
- Good verbal and written communication skills along with effective communications skills
- Ability to manage your own workload and to maintain a balanced workload, having regard for competing demands in an often highly pressurised environment.
