This post will provide a unique opportunity for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated GP who wishes to pursue a special interest and develop their skills in working with vulnerable children and young people.

You will work closely with the Harrow Children Looked After Health Team to provide a flexible service
undertaking health assessments for children looked after.
This would be an ideal job for a local GP or Paediatrician wishing to work additional sessions, or to create a varied portfolio of experience while developing their experience in this specialist area.

CNWL is a nationally leading NHS Foundation Trust providing Mental Health, Community Health and Child Health Services across London and the South East of England.

Over the last few years our catchment area has grown significantly, making the Trust’s population more diverse than ever. We were authorised as a Foundation Trust on 1 May 2007.

**The Trust is organised in to three Divisions**: Jameson, Goodall and Diggory. Goodall Division is responsible for the delivery of Mental Health and community Learning Disability services in Hillingdon, as well as all CNWL’s specialist rehabilitation provision and CAMHS provision in NW London. We also deliver community physical health services in a number of boroughs in NW London, including Hillingdon Harrow, Ealing and neighbouring System of North Central London.

Clinical role

To ensure that children looked after receive timely and good quality health assessments which clearly identify health needs.

To identify appropriate health recommendations including outstanding immunisations and to refer onward appropriately.

To follow up any outstanding actions from health assessments undertaken.

To provide a young person friendly approach using ‘You’re Welcome’ quality standards.

To develop expertise in providing assessments to adolescents and unaccompanied asylum-seeking children and young people.

To use IT appropriately to record all patient activity on the electronic health record.

To undertake paediatric / observational developmental assessments.

To be actively involved and contribute to children looked after audits and QI projects.

To produce timely, accurate and good quality reports as required.

To support the Medical Advisor for Fostering and Adoption.

To ensure that clinical practice delivers quality and effectiveness as determined by evidence base on research and practice.

To work flexibly to deliver a service to meet young people’s wide-ranging needs.

To work effectively on an inter-professional and interagency basis.

To offer advice where required to other professionals such as foster carers/key workers and social workers about the health management of looked after children.

Policy and Inter Agency Responsibilities

To understand all relevant child safeguarding policies.

To actively lead on the development and implementation of relevant and up to date policies and procedures across Central and North West London (CNWL) focusing on the aspects which specifically relate to children looked after and primary care.

To contribute to identification of unmet health needs/gaps in service provision and promote innovative service solutions.

Co-ordination and Communication

To ensure regular and timely communication with colleagues in community and acute services.

To work closely with the Children Looked After Health Team.

To liaise with Social Care and Education Services as required to ensure the needs of children are me.

To liaise with GPs, Health Visitors, School Nurses and other health care professionals to ensure that health needs for children are followed up.
