An opportunity to join the Business Crime Reduction Partnership (BCRP) for a 5-8-month period as a Business Crime Support Officer at Grade 7 is being offered. This position is for the cover of maternity leave.

The post holders will support the Business Crime Manager working with local businesses to reduce crime through appropriate interventions. A mobile radio system for all participants quickly reports either the expectation that a crime is about to be committed or confirmation that such an event has taken place. This allows other businesses and appropriate agencies to act very quickly.

The post holder will often be lone working at scheme locations across Cheshire West and North Wales, liaising with retailers and partners. Therefore, successful applicants will need a full driving licence, their own vehicle, and on occasions be willing to work unsociable hours including evenings and weekends if needed.

Weekly and monthly meetings are held with representatives from the police, CCTV operators, the local business community and anyone with a vested interest in the BCRP scheme updating businesses on the latest crimes and identified criminals in all scheme areas covered by the BCRP. Together with the Police targeting known criminals and the issuing of a weekly newsletter complete the regular actions.

The initiative has been presented with a nationally recognised ‘Safer Business Award’ - ‘with distinction’. This benchmark award recognises Cheshire West and North Wales BCRP as one of the leading lights in Business Crime Reduction Partnerships in the UK, and demonstrates the BCRP’S achievements in partnership working, Data Act compliance and information sharing.

To assist in the use of the DISC system (Database and Intranet for Safer Communities), which helps scheme areas in tackling the threat posed by thieves travelling shops and businesses and providing them with the latest intelligence.

The post holders will be responsible for raising invoices, purchase orders and handling financial enquiries from scheme members.

The Business Crime Support Officer is responsible for management of the scheme in a particular geographical within Cheshire West and North Wales. Should any issues arise in the area which are outside the scope of the Business Crime Support Officer’s role, they would be escalated to the Business Crime Reduction Officer.

At times innovative solutions will be needed to achieve the aim of reducing crime levels. As incidents occur immediate action or response is necessary. So quick thinking is essential. Accurately providing support will also therefore be an integral part of this role to include minutes and then chasing actions as well as reporting back to the business partners.

The BCRP also has over 400 business members across West Cheshire and North Wales at present therefore creating accurate monitoring systems is also essential. Much of the data held is very confidential and needs to be managed carefully.

To work directly with a wide variety of businesses and the appropriate agencies, developing relationships is an important skill required to successfully undertake this role.

Proposals to extend the initiative elsewhere in new areas of interest will always be under review, this post holder will be fully involved in this and take the lead where necessary. Customer service and satisfaction is key to this role, as is the ability to sell our ‘product’ to our target audience.

The post holder will be expected to work on their own initiative whenever appropriate and be a point of contact whenever necessary. To solve the problems and issues thrown up by the initiative will require initiative to find new solutions. The importance of providing “value for money” to the stakeholders can not be underestimated.

Unforeseen issues and responses will inevitably arise with a project of this kind. Support, advice and guidance is available from the Business Crime Manager Officer, when required but the post holder will mostly be expected to work independently**.**
