The HTNRU is a 7 bed Neurological Rehabilitation unit which supports people with a Neurological condition to return to the community. The main part of the role is providing day to day care whilst facilitating people to be as independent as possible.
As a key member of the Rehabilitation team, you will work alongside nursing and therapy staff on the ward and participate in a structured programme of rehabilitation sessions for patients.
In return for your experience, motivation and enthusiasm for the role, we offer support through formal supervision with further support from other professionals within the team. We actively encourage CPD and offer opportunities to attend training courses in addition to mandatory training.
The post involves working days, nights and weekend shifts across a flexible working pattern. Previous experience of working with clients with a disability is preferred.
Daily duties include washing, dressing, toileting, simple meal preparation, supporting patients with their rehabilitation programmes and going out into the community.
The post-holder will work as part of the ward team, offering patients rehabilitation in order to maximise their potential, thereby enabling them to achieve as much independence as possible.
The patients have a range of functional and cognitive difficulties. These may include difficulty in carrying out activities such as walking, dressing or feeding. The rehabilitation assistant will participate in all aspects of assessment, treatment and personal care under the supervision of designated senior nursing and therapy staff
Rehabilitation activities will include working with clients in personal care routines, walking, exercise routines, preparation of snacks, wound care and pain assessment as well as helping them to undertake daily living and leisure activities. Some tasks will be undertaken working one to one with the patient whilst other work will take place in groups.
