Following a formal organisational change process has led to the establishment of a rehabilitation assistant team to work alongside rehabilitation clinicians, including Teachers of the Deaf and Speech and Language Therapists. The role is embedded full time within the Hearing Implant Service at St Thomas' Hospital and will include working both in the department and virtually. The work may include supporting both the adult and paediatric teams or embedded solely in either of these teams.

Working to support the rehabilitation clinicians to provide a seamless service both in the hospital and liaisons with local community professionals.

There will be direct work with patients and families through face to face and virtual contacts.

The role will involve developing clinical resources and maintaining data spreadsheets

The team is committed to all staff attending service improvement meetings to engage in service developments.

All staff are supported with relevant training as part of their CPD process.

There will be a specific focus on supporting training around deafness and hearing implants

To organise the storage of Hearing Implant Centre rehabilitation resources.

To arrange group rehabilitation sessions.

To carry out assessment and therapy tasks for individual patients and/or groups of patients for the paediatric and adult Hearing Implant Rehabilitation teams under the direction of a clinician.

To write up patient notes under the supervision of a clinician.

To design and develop low tech communication and therapy aids including auditory training charts and picture communication charts for individual patients under the direction of the Speech and Language Therapists and Teachers of the Deaf.

To develop and maintain a library of therapy resources, therapy equipment and speech perception materials held within the department and help to ensure equipment is complete and tidy.

To issue patients with questionnaires and upon receipt of this data, input it onto the teams spread sheets/auditbase.
