The Assistant Media Officer will support the Strategic and Research Media teams to develop and maintain Imperial’s reputation as a world leading university by supporting media relations work across the full breadth of our strategic and academic activities.

**Duties and responsibilities**:
You will form part of the frontline of the wider Media team, handling media requests and facilitating proactive media opportunities on a daily basis to ensure that Imperial’s academic expertise and strategic priorities are regularly featured in target media, in line with Imperial’s strategic priorities.

As well as media relations support, you will use excellent writing and editing skills and a strong news judgement to contribute to Imperial's own channels, including working with the team to source stories for, draft, and publish Imperial’s weekly ‘News in Brief’ roundup. You will also ensure our content meets the highest editorial standards, using your attention to detail to carefully sub-edit and upload news stories to our website and issue press releases to journalists.

With a sound understanding of the media landscape and what counts as a media success, you will monitor and help to report on our media performance and impact by compiling coverage reports.

Using excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, the Assistant Media Officer will provide smooth-running administrative assistance to support the Media teams’ day-to-day running and our work on key media projects. You will be able to problem solve and use initiative and creativity to spot opportunities to improve our team processes and our media offering.

**Essential requirements**:

- Degree or relevant academic or vocational qualification
- Experience of working in a communications, press or journalism environment
- Experience of both reactive and proactive media liaison and demonstrated news judgement
- Experience of writing communications material such as news stories, press releases, web content or presentations about strategic and academic activities
- Experience of providing administrative support on media or communications projects
- Excellent IT literacy (including Microsoft Office and website content management systems)
- A sound understanding of the national and international media landscape
- Excellent organisational skills and an ability to work under pressure, to strict deadlines and budgetary controls
- Excellent writing, proofing and editing skills, including high standards of accuracy, consistency and attention to detail
- Strong research and analytical skills, and ability to summarise findings clearly, including conveying messages in a clear and compelling way, tailored according to the audience
- Ability to exercise initiative and problem solve
- Outstanding interpersonal skills

**Further information**:
This is a full time and open-ended role, and you will be based at the South Kensington Campus.
- The College is currently trialling a Work Location Framework until early 2023. Hybrid working may be considered for this role and the role holder may be expected to work 60% or more of their time onsite, with 40% the minimum time spent onsite.
