Advanced Paramedic Mental Health
Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) is expanding its clinical workforce by introducing a newAdvanced Practitioner Mental Health(APMH) role open to suitably experienced Paramedics.
The post provides an opportunity for motivated Paramedics to be involved in the Trust’s new delivery model leading Specialist Paramedics for Mental Health, who will rotate between the Mental Health Response Vehicles (MHRV), Emergency Operation Centre (EOC), Integrated Urgent Care (IUC), and wider mental health partners.
This is the first opportunity of its kind in the country and part of our innovative Mental Health Programme.
The MHRVs attend to specific mental health jobs where a double-crewed ambulance and transport to the ED may not be required as there is no physical injury. Patients are transported to safe spaces and put in touch with crisis teams to access support and Mental Health Assessment.
Both the AP and SP roles will support EOC (999) and IUC (111) colleagues with mental health jobs to increase the knowledge and expertise available in our contact centres.
Applicants will have experience and post registration qualifications relating to an element of mental health service delivery.
The post holder is an experienced Paramedic who, acting within their professional boundaries, will provide enhanced clinical decision making to support pathways of care to patients with mental health presentations, through telephone consultation and face to face assessment, as well as clinical support and advice to colleagues.
You will lead a team of Specialist Paramedics and work closely with colleagues in EOC and IUC as well as wider system partners. You will ensure the delivery of excellent patient care through the continuous achievement of high clinical standards. You will work autonomously and support patients within our community. You will be expected to undertake relevant research and development activities, and to provide guidance and mentorship to peers within your role as required.
The role is open to experienced Paramedics with HCPC Registration who are able to meet the requirements of the job description and person specification. Please note that this post is not suitable for NQP Paramedics.
**The assessments will be split into two elements**:
1. MHRV Q&A
2. Interview with short presentation
Interviews will be held w/c 4th September
