An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join the MDT Navigator Team.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring patients referred to The Royal Marsden receive their treatment within the guidelines of the National Waiting Time targets. The post holder will make sure that patients are seen promptly following referral and treated within the appropriate timescale. This includes monitoring patients referred to other Trusts in the Network and influencing their patient pathway, via the local MDT. The post holder will also be responsible for administrative support and organisation of site-specific MDT meetings.

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring patients referred to The Royal Marsden receive their treatment within the guidelines of the National Waiting Time targets. The post holder will make sure that patients are seen promptly following referral and treated within the appropriate timescale. This includes monitoring patients referred to other Trusts in the Network and influencing their patient pathway, via the local MDT.

By liaising and working with MDT members at referring trusts, the post holder will ensure that patients are referred to The Royal Marsden in a timely fashion, thereby enabling the Trust to treat by the target date. The post holder will be responsible for capturing information about patients; ensuring up-to-date relevant information is recorded on the Trust’s databases and is fed back to referring organisations.

The post holder will work with the Service Managers to ensure the development of locally and nationally agreed datasets in accordance with the NHS Cancer Plan. The production of timely reports, along with maintaining and developing tracking systems will be required.

- To have full understanding of Trust and National targets relating to cancer and other waiting times and to navigate patients through their diagnostic and treatment pathways within these principles.
- To maintain the accuracy and effectiveness of the Trusts Patient Tracking database, ensuring it is kept up to date and current.
- To identify any patients likely to be referred to the Centre for definitive treatment, to assess the course of action required for the patient and to advise the local MDT Coordinators/Navigators of necessary escalations to diagnostic pathways thus ensuring National Cancer Waiting Time Targets are met.
- To proactively monitor urgent patients’ progress, highlighting problems to the clinical team and escalating where necessary according to local protocols.
- To attend the weekly patient tracking meeting and report on progress of 14 days, 31 days, subsequent 31 days, 62 days and 18 weeks patients to Service Managers and Performance and Strategy Team.
- To maintain a patient’s milestone record, recording all activities and actions taken to steer patients through the patient pathway.
