**Health & Safety Officer**

Based at our state-of-the-art head office and distribution centre on the outskirts of Preston, James Hall & Co. Ltd. have been established for over 150 years proudly serving communities across the north of England as supplier and distributor to over 600 SPAR stores.

**About the Role**

To monitor standards, processes and systems to ensure health and safety is adequately managed within the business.

**Here’s What You Can Expect to be Doing**
- Assist the Head of Health & Safety with ensuring legal and best practice compliance.
- Working proactively with managers, supervisors and representatives of employee safety to maintain a culture of safe working practices.
- Review the quality of risk assessments and safe systems of work and where necessary work with the management team to achieve the required standards.
- Undertake health and safety inspections and audits.
- Report accidents / incidents to the Health & Safety Executive.
- Where necessary, provide the management team with assistance in health and safety investigations.
- Advise on general health and safety matters and training.
- Monitor / review the effectiveness of the health and safety training programme.
- Chair health and safety meetings.
- Provide the Head of Health & Safety with regular performance reports.
- Ensure that personal knowledge on health and safety legislation and best practice is current.
- Monitor and review the occupational health assessment system.

**Achievement**:

- NEBOSH General Certificate or Equivalent
- Previous experience in Health and Safety role
- Takes pride in personal and team achievements.
- Frequently attempts to identify areas for continuous improvement both personally and for the business.
- Meets deadlines whilst uncompromising on quality of work.
- Driven to make the workplace and processes as safe as they reasonably can be.
