Senior Radiology Support Worker

An excellent opportunity has arisen in the busy Radiology Department at The Great Western Hospital and Community Diagnostic Centre in West Swindon for a Senior Radiology Support Worker.

The Radiology department consists of 2 interventional rooms, 2 fluoroscopy rooms, 7 general x-ray rooms, 5 ultrasound rooms, 2 diagnostic CT scanners, 2 MRI scanners and a nursing recovery bay.
The department is always expanding and we would love you to join us in this expansion Full training and support will be provided.
We are looking for committed support workers who are confident in cannulation and with some experience of looking after patients following biopsies. You must be passionate about doing the best for our patients through delivering excellent standards of care.

Obtain consent prior to giving care in accordance with Trust policies.
Complete duties that are delegated to you in line with care plans.
Use your knowledge, experience and understanding to take decisions within your area of responsibility.
To carry out a range of clinical duties with mínimal / no supervision, including for example, preparing and positioning patients prior to examination, assistance and recovery of prostate biopsy patients, taking Egfr samples, bladder flow measurements, peripheral intravenous cannulation, decanting, DEXA scanning, blood pressure monitoring, oxygen saturation levels, body temperature, pulse rate and respiration rate, glucose monitoring, collection and testing of urine samples / faecal samples / sputum samples and wound swabs ensuring delivery of high-quality patient care at all times. NB: this list is not exhaustive and will vary depending on area of work.
Participate in patient assessment providing high quality holistic patient care and escalating concerns about patients to other clinical staff.
Practice safe standards of care to patients following Trust guidelines and policies and policies and be able to concentrate for periods throughout the day with occasional interruptions.
Provide clinical care in accordance with the infection prevention and health and safety policies and procedures.
Maintain the work environment in line with Trust infection control and patient safety policies.
Develop the skills to actively facilitate self-care and independence with patients.
Promote health education specific to the clinical area and in line with national and local policies.
Maintain accurate records relating to communication with patients, relatives, and members of the Multidisciplinary team regarding all aspects of care demonstrating a range of appropriate communication skills.
Ensuring equipment and stores are well maintained, taking appropriate action if the equipment is faulty
Work effectively as part of a team.
Demonstrate ability to access Trust policies and procedures and comply with those relevant to role.
Act, at all times, in a manner which demonstrates respect for privacy, dignity and confidentiality.

Act within limits of competence, ensuring actions support care, protection, and wellbeing.

Be accountable for your own work and for reviewing the effectiveness of care provided. Adapting, or escalating as required.
To assist on the reception desk/booking office if required - checking patients’ personal details ensuring computer record is accurate.
Comply with Trust policy regarding information governance and the care of patient property.
Ensure there are supplies of patient care equipment, i.e. linen and cleaning materials in the radiographic rooms and nursing station.
To be able to use the departmental computerised radiology information system, Clinical Radiology Information system (CRIS) and be conversant with the picture archive and communication system (PACS).
To comply with the Ionising Radiation Regulation 2017 and Ironising Regulation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017 (IR(ME)R2017)
