- Job description- We’re looking for an individual with the drive and vision to provide leadership and direction to our Flood Resilience Team in Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire Area.
You will be responsible for leading the team through this challenges of working in the busy incident management space, ensuring the team continue to deliver our critical Warning and Informing role in issuing Flood Alerts and Flood Warnings. You will support the Area Flood Risk Manager in maintaining and enhancing relationships with our local communities/professional partners in the Local Resilience Forums (LRF) we support.
You'll have a clear focus on working closely with local communities, Local Resilience Forum Partners and other Risk Management Authorities to ensure that we warn and inform local communities both in advance of and during flood incidents. You'll help assess the risk to local communities and work with them to ensure these communities become more resilient and better able to help themselves, in line with the FCRM Strategy.
Your team will use our evidence and data to provide expert advice and guidance to internal and external colleagues to assist in reducing risk to life.
You will also play a role in our Incident Management work, through a duty role and being involved in all aspects of our incident management and response work.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
You will develop close working with other Area teams to ensure the Flood and Coastal Risk Management Department works closely with Operations, Environment Management and Environment Planning and Engagement departments.
- The team- We focus on working with other internal/external customers to reduce risk of flooding and coastal erosion to people and property. The team focus on a wide range of work from community engagement, training and exercising duty officers, informing communities of the risks they face and technical work associated with managing our Flood Warning System.
- Experience/skills required- You'll have good organisational awareness, excellent communication and interpersonal skills - these will be complimented by your enthusiasm to achieve results and to lead and coach others to do the same.
In addition you’ll have:

A degree in a relevant discipline (or evidence of extensive work experience).
A good understanding of the key drivers and issues relating to our Flood Risk Management work.
The ability to translate organisational environmental outcomes into plans and programmes.
Delivered results through others by overseeing, coaching, developing and mentoring staff.
Experience of working with internal and external partners to deliver specific outcomes, to time, cost and quality.
Demonstration of political awareness and sensitivity when dealing with customers, stakeholders and communities.
It is desirable that you are a member of, or are working towards membership of, a professional body.
- Contact and additional information- The role will be based in Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire Area. You will need to occasionally travel to customers and Environment Agency offices in Lincolnshire and Northamptonshire and further afield as required.
You are likely to find it necessary to visit locations which may not be easily accessible via public transport so will need to hold a full UK driving licence.
