4641 External Communications Officer - Gloucestershire Constabulary (tal.net)

An exciting opportunity has become available to join Gloucestershire Constabulary's External Communications Team.

As part of the busy press office, you'll be responsible for helping get justice for victims and giving them a voice, find missing people, support Neighbourhood Policing and keep people safe from harm.

Communicating with our communities, partners and the media is a critical part of the policing service, and this role is responsible for providing both a proactive and reactive news service to the county.

Up until March this year, the team issued more than 100 press releases appealing for information in relation to a range of incidents which included assaults, collisions, burglary, robberies and wanted people.

The team provides an important service through communications to our communities by reassuring them that offenders are being brought to justice; giving crime prevention advice to help protect people and their property; and promoting the work we do in order to build trust in our service, at a time when, nationally, policing is under the spotlight.

We're seeking someone who is enthusiastic with a keen interest in being part of the work which helps keep our communities safe, and also has an understanding of both local, regional and national media.

They should also be able to manage several projects with conflicting timescales, have an ability to work to tight deadlines, and be able to identify the communications needs and maximise the possibilities, ensuring key messages are not lost within press releases and statements.

A relevant communications qualification, such as journalism or other media-related discipline is required, as well as proven journalistic or public relations experience, and an awareness of media law and contempt of court.

There is flexible working, with three days at our HQ in Quedgeley and two days working from home. This role currently provides additional communications support for Neighbourhood Policing in both Stroud and the Cotswolds.

There will also be the requirement to attend court to provide communications support for high-profile cases, and ride along on police operations to assist with the Constabulary’s operational priorities and campaigns. Due to this, a full driving licence is essential.

Alongside three other team members you will also be expected to participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota one week out of four, helping provide 24/7 communications support for the Constabulary.

**Salary**: £31,434.00-£33,348.00 per year
