We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated physiotherapy assistant practitioner. You will be based at Harefield Hospital as an important member of a well-established and highly respected physiotherapy teamand wider multi professional Therapy team.

The role involves working on wards, both alongside therapists and independently, treating adults following cardiothoracic surgery and transplantation which will regularly involve the use of rehabilitation equipment and hoists. You will be closely supported by, and receive regular teaching from highly skilled, experienced senior physiotherapists.

You will be responsible for the monitoring and cleaning of equipment kept by the physiotherapy department and ensuring safety checks are carried out.

Good IT / word processing skills are essential to be able to carry out administration and clerical duties.

We are looking for someone who will be a flexible team player with good communication skills both with other professionals and with patients and their carers. Previous experience working in a clinical role is desirable.

Royal Brompton & Harefield hospitals are a clinical group of two specialist hospitals which are known throughout the world for our expertise, standard of care and research success. Harefield Hospital includes a range of cardiothoracic medicine and surgery, including transplantation, and critical care.
- The post holder will be rotational between the inpatient physiotherapy teams predominantly providing mobility practice, exercise sessions and more complex rehabilitation to patients. They will be responsible for supporting the Cardiothoracic and Transplantation Therapy team (CT&Tx) in the provision of a patient-centred service, in an efficient and cost-effective way. This may be a rotational role.
- The post holder will assist in the provision of care to patients, supported and supervised by senior therapists.
- The post holder will carry out clinical tasks to support the CT&Tx therapy team, such as supervision of daily individual rehabilitation delegated by qualified staff, requiring a wide range of technical ability, as well as an excellent level of interpersonal skills.
- The post holder will carry out clinical assessments independently, within their Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner competency framework.
- To gain the required knowledge and skills in the relevant technical, clinical and organisational procedures, and to maintain those skills working under the Physiotherapy Assistant Practitioner Competency programme under the supervision of Specialist therapy teams.
- The post holder will continue individualised rehabilitation and developmental programmes with patients and progress and review these with support from qualified therapists as appropriate.
- The post holder will be able to identify when a patient needs to be reviewed by the physiotherapy team due to changing complexity of needs.
- The post holder will be aware of ongoing discharge plans and be able to work with the physiotherapy team to advise on physiotherapy needs upon discharge from hospital.
