The new Local Plan will be setting a strategy for locating new homes and jobs, it will play an important role in addressing our climate emergency, planning for Green Infrastructure and a range of other land uses. You will play an important part in assisting the preparation of the new Local Plan, a wide range of supporting evidence, the Authorities Monitoring Report and contribute to public consultations.

We have one role available which can be offered as either a Planning Assistant or Technical Support Officer.

The role offered will be dependent on experience and demonstrating ability to meet the criteria set out in the ‘What you will be doing?’ and ‘What we need from you’ sections below.
- Planning Assistant (£25,409 - £27,852)
- Technical Support Officer (£22,777 - £24,054)

**What will you be doing?**
- You will be required to undertake mapping of sites and key assets, along with any linked data and information. This will involve working on the Call for Sites, Housing Economic Land Availability Assessment (HELAA), housing and employment monitoring. (training will be given on the in-house mapping software) and site allocations.
- Where appropriate, you will support consultation and engagement activities (face to face and online), coordination and planning.
- You will summarise and carry out reporting of Local Plan representations and respond to planning consultation documents.
- On a daily basis you will work with both internal and external stakeholders, members of the public, local and parish councillors, applicants, developers, businesses and other organisations.

As a Planning Assistant:

- You will support, and under supervision from senior officers, prepare planning policy and evidence for plan-led regeneration and development within urban, suburban, and rural areas and potential policy topics including; climate change, minerals, employment and retail and strategic site requirements.
- You'll be responsible for maintaining and recording land use and other surveys, to support preparation and analysis of the Authority’s Monitoring Report (AMR), including housing and employment land monitoring.
- You will assist in the production of the Local Plan Sustainability Appraisal and Habitat Regulations Assessments.

As a Technical Support Officer:

- Your key responsibilities will be related to data collection, mapping, research, and monitoring of planning policy issues, community and planning data.
- You will be required to analyse this data and support with written reports and presentation. This work will directly inform the formulation and consultation of strategy & planning policy for South Gloucestershire’s new Local Plan, supporting evidence and the Authority’s Monitoring Report (AMR).

**What we need from you**:

- We require you to have the ability to research, analyse, present, and monitor information and data from national, regional, and local sources using internet and other sources.
- You must have practical skills and experience in using a range of IT packages with experience in using databases, including running standard reports, analysing data and presenting findings, with a willingness to learn. As a minimum experience of being proficient in using word and excel and ideally experience of using PowerPoint and Access.
- You will demonstrate ability to work through problems individually but also work collaboratively, primarily with members of the Planning Policy Team and when required colleagues across the wider council.
- You will be able to prioritise competing tasks daily to ensure that projects are completed effectively and that the technical, customer and professional officer requirements are met.

To be appointed at Planning Assistant grade you will:

- be aware of the key local and national planning policy documents which form the currently adopted Local Plan for South Gloucestershire
- gave an understanding of the concept of sustainable development and awareness of how development can change and affect people’s quality of life.
- have experience and/ or ability to support and at times lead on work tasks.

To be appointed at Technical Support Officer grade you will:

- be required to hold a minimum qualification of NVQ level 3 (or equivalent qualification) including English and Maths, or you will hold equivalent relevant experience in administration or business support.
- have experience and/ or ability to support work tasks of the team and senior officers.
