Job description

An exciting new role is available to drive the participation of children and young people with SEND in decision making and service planning, delivery, and evaluation across education, health and social care in Slough.

This role involves empowering SEND children and young people (CYPs) to make a difference, helping them to develop their skills and abilities and make positive contributions to the outcomes of other children and young people.

You will also work collaboratively with partners across multiple areas (health, education, social care, voluntary sector), to share and develop best practice in participation and ensure that SEND CYP have a voice and are able to influence the development and improvement of services.

This is a specialist role which will require a senior participation officer who has a good knowledge of reasonable adjustments, safeguarding, service design and best practice models for co-production and experience of working with CYP with SEND. We are interested in interviewing creative individuals who have a desire to learn more.

The post links the key SEND improvement outcomes for Slough - **_Empowering and supporting children and young people with SEND to influence local SEND policy and service design and review services so provision can be delivered in a way that better meets their needs._**

The interview itself is likely to involve delivery of a presentation or short activity to a small group of young people with SEND (full details if you reach the interview stage).

2. Promote and build a network of participation and co-production by developing and embedding a Slough wide process that enables CYP with SEND to participate in giving their views and make a meaningful contribution to the development of services, including coordinating opportunities between services.

3. Using the co-production approach adopted by Slough Borough Council’s SEND Strategic Board, work with CYP with SEND and partners to establish additional co production and participation opportunities to ensure that their views feed into our services, policy and influencing work.

5. Work with partners to identify CYP with SEND to contribute and participate in giving views, feedback and developing their own voice and ensure they are provided with a wide range of mechanisms and support to enable them to do so.

6. Work co-operatively with other ‘Youth Voice’ workers and existing youth voice mechanisms across Slough to help develop and share best practice in participation for CYP with SEND and ensure workers are equipped with the right resources and training to support authentic participation and inclusion. Play an active role in wider training opportunities.

7. Act as an advocate for SEND CYP’s right to have a say in decision making, practice and policy development, through active involvement in recruitment and training of staff, individual and group representation.

8. Actively promote accessibility to ensure full representation is achieved by acting as a champion for diversity and equality to ensure that protected characteristics of age, gender and gender orientation, sexual orientation, race, religion or belief, socio-economic status and disability are well-represented in the CYP’s voice
