Data Solutions Platform and Capability Lead is a senior role, within the Data Solutions leadership team, which owns the continuous development of the data solutions business and technical capabilities.

The role provides technical leadership within the Data Solutions team, and more broadly across Group Data Office. The role holder will work closely with the Head of Data Transformation and the Data Architecture team to define and execute a roadmap for our cloud analytics capability.

Now is a great time to be joining the data solutions team in this role as we strive to support the business making better data driven decisions, becoming an insight led modern mutual. This will be enabled through modern tooling and a newly created cloud-based platform.

Key responsibilities
Accountable for specifying the requirements of the analytics platform to support productionisation of data science models, bespoke analytics and BI products
Technical product leadership of the Cloud Analytics platform, interfacing with the business and technical product owners of the underlying Enterprise Data Platform (EDP) to influence direction and roadmap to ensure enablement of Analytics use cases
Accountable for setting technical standards for Data Solutions product development activity including: code management, documentation, product development lifecycle (PDLC)
Accountable for managing resource usage across the Cloud Analytics platform, and the associated budget (FinOps)
Responsible for the provision of a data product development environment that minimises time to value and cost to value, and maximises development productivity
Define and oversee development of a marketplace for data products, enabling producers to publish trusted data products and consumers to search, find and use data products

Criteria
Sound understanding of contemporary data engineering practices and tooling, data science model development process (including hypothesis definition, model training and test, and production engineering), and business intelligence product development (reqs mgt, dataset curation, UI design, productionisation)
Significant knowledge and experience of one or more cloud platform technology stacks e.g. Azure (preferred), AWS, GCP
Significant, demonstrable experience of productionising data products (ML models, productised datasets, business intelligence reporting and dashboards)
Good understanding of data management practices e.g. data quality management, data lineage, metadata management
Understanding of model risk management in the context of data science models
Experience of managing FinOps
A sound understanding of Cloud Analytics architecture (Lake, Warehouse and Lakehouse)
