We are looking for a Spiritual Care lead /Chaplain who can work closely alongside the Family Support Team, and within our Inpatient and Outpatient areas. This person will help raise awareness of different faiths, building close links with community faith providers in the area, as well as develop St Kentigerns spiritual identity The Chaplain must support patients and their families, but also be available to our staff in what will be a diverse cultural and educational role. Our aim is to provide spiritual, pastoral and religious care to patients & families, colleagues and visitors within the hospice community, and to support the same in bereavement and at other times of need. Such support would be offered, regardless of faith or life stance.

The person should be confident in running groups, organising events around faith as well as offering one to one support for individuals, coming from a person centred approach to helping people explore what spirituality means to them The Chaplain must be able to offer training and educational support, to help staff develop their understanding of spirituality within our organisation (and how to identify spiritual needs in patients and family members seeking support) The role is multi-dimensional and will provide a platform for us to grow as a community with a holistic approach to pastoral care and family support throughout all areas of the Hospice An understanding of the more traditional aspects of Faith and rituals around loss and dying is essential, so that we can offer our patients a fuller understanding (and advise staff if they need ) of traditional practices and cultural differences surrounding the approach to end of life, and all that brings for patients and their families is essential. Information on services and funeral arrangements, working with other faith providers in the area to meet the specific needs of individual patients under our care A non-judgemental approach to all those with faith or no faith, regardless of background or situations is a given as is a willingness to keep learning within the role bringing to us new approaches and creative ways to deliver our spiritual services.
