This is an opportunity to develop and extend specialist skills in assessment and therapy input for children and young people across the Trust, with a range of Speech, Language and communication needs, and to take a delegated lead role within the community team, responsible for caseload and locality management and supporting our Band 5 therapists and our Therapy assistants.

This post will be based within our community team, with sessions delivered primarily in Keighley and Bingley, but the sessions may be used across the whole Trust geographical / clinical area at different times, according to service needs, and negotiated with the post holder, team leads & service manager. Individual areas of interest will be considered as well as professional development needs.

The post holder will be directly responsible to one of the paediatric SALT team leads, and will work together with other specialist therapists. They will contribute to the wider Children’s Therapies service, managed by the Children’s Therapies Manager/ SALT professional lead and be part of the allied health professions workforce for Airedale NHS Foundation Trust

This post is part time - 25.5 hours per week (Mon
- Friday).The pattern of working can be negotiated and we support flexible and agile working requests where possible
- To prioritise, plan and deliver clinical case work within Children’s Therapies Service( paediatric Speech and Language Therapy)
- Provide a key role in partnership working with patients, carers, the MDT, and wider statutory, private and voluntary sector services.
- To support team members in ensuring the effective functioning of the team
- To actively participate in quality improvements to improve the service
- Provide support to the clinical team lead and service managers deputising for them as required, and taking a lead role in a specified locality
- Provide effective student training and support staff development

The Children Therapy team are a friendly and supportive team of Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapist and assistants working with babies, children and young people aged 0-19 in a variety of outpatient, and community settings. Multidisciplinary and multiagency working is central to service delivery as well as uni-professional pathways to address the individual patient needs. Children's Therapies are part of Therapies Dietetics and Health care psychology services, but link closely with the Children's Services directorate and with colleagues across the systems.

**Principle Duties and Responsibilities**:
1. Clinical

1.1. Provide timely and efficient Speech and Language Therapy to patients according to clinical protocols and service priorities.

1.2 Ensure patients receive a high standard of clinical care and that you meet the standards expected from the professional body (RCSLT) and comply with statutory SEND requirements

1.3 Use investigative and analytical skills to undertake a comprehensive, specialist Speech and Language assessment of the patient.

1.4 Reflect on complex facts gathered or situations presented and use analysis
and judgment skills to consider options for interventions, and outcomes.

1.5 Formulate individual management and treatment plans, using advanced clinical reasoning and a wide range of evidence based treatment skills

1.6 Plan and implement specialist Speech and Language Therapy interventions/care packages in partnership with the service user, with the carer as necessary and in consultation with colleagues.

1.7 Plan and organise to carry out assessment and interventions in the most appropriate setting.

1.8 Monitor and evaluate the outcome of specialist interventions in partnership with the service user if possible, with the carer if necessary and in consultation with colleagues.

1.9 Collaborate with the MDT to develop and improve patient pathways.

1.10 Respond to unforeseen situations that take precedence over planned work.

1.11 Provide advice, teaching and instruction for relatives, carers, and other health professionals to promote understanding of the aims of Speech and Language Therapy and to ensure a consistent approach to patient care.

1.12 Provide specialist advice to therapy and dietetic colleagues working within other clinical areas across the Trust.
