About us

Serco provides a complete waste and recycling service on behalf of local authorities. We are experts in designing, implementing, and managing waste and recycling services, with a capability spanning collection,treatment, processing, and disposal.

Our waste and recycling services enable local authorities to deliver reliable waste management services, with over 200,000 tons of waste recycled every year. And one of the most important parts of the team our are vehicle mechanics, who ensure that our HGV refuse trucks and street cleansing vehicles can keep our community clean, green and safe for all residents and businesses.

A position has become available for an HGV Mechanic within the workshop department at our Haywards Heath Contract. Working in a friendly and professional team, you will provide essential maintenance within this commercial vehicle workshop environment.

At Serco, we are dedicated to the ongoing development and progression of our mechanic teams, with outstanding training along opportunities to undertake additional qualifications, including OEM training, HGV Driver training and Irtec accreditation.

About you

First and foremost, you’ll need to be an experienced and fully qualified mechanic - preferably with HGV mechanic experience, or be willing to undertake additional training to upskill.

You should have good written and verbal communication skills, be able to undertake all aspects of vehicle maintenance and repair, and general welding skills would be advantageous.

Essential skills and experience

Electrical Fault-Finding experience
Hydraulic repair experience
Experience in maintenance of fleet vehicles
Good communication skills
Be able to undertake all aspects of commercial vehicle maintenance and repair

What is Desirable?

Full industry recognised qualifications (City & Guilds / NVQ Level Three in Heavy Vehicle Maintenance and Repair)
LGV Licence
Chassis work
Good written skills (to complete inspection/defect paperwork)
