An opportunity has arisen for a Mechanical Engineer to work at London Gatwick Airport, maintaining and repairing vehicles to strict company standards and adhering to all health and safety guidelines.

Reporting to the Supervisor into Fleet/Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the upkeep of vehicles, adhering to current DVSA regulations, and maintaining a clean and tidy workshop.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Carry out routine safety inspections, MOT preparations, and service vehicles to a higher standard than DVSA minimum requirements.
  • Rectify driver defects as requested.
  • Attend promptly to vehicle breakdowns as requested by the Fleet/Engineering Manager or Supervisor.
  • Complete job cards, safety inspections sheets, and driver defect reports accurately.
  • Comply with company health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform any other reasonable work-related tasks, including travel.

Experience, Knowledge & Qualifications

  • Desirable: PCV/HGV licence.
  • Previous experience in vehicle maintenance.
  • Relevant City & Guilds qualifications, such as NVQ 2 in mechanical commercial vehicles.
  • Excellent diagnostic skills and familiarity with Department of Transport Standards (DVSA).
  • Strong team working and communication skills.
