**About us**:
UCL STEaPP is based in the Faculty of Engineering Sciences, focused on the interconnections between science, technology, engineering and public policy. Public policy engagement is central to STEaPP’s mission and mandate. The Policy Impact Unit (PIU) was established to increase the use of the world-class research produced by UCL Engineering researchers in the policymaking process.

**About the role**:
The Head of the Policy Impact Unit develops and manages a portfolio of projects to enhance policy impact from engineering research, with an emphasis on identifying the policy need and drawing out the ‘so-what’ from research activities. This includes managing Policy Advisers working on a diverse range of projects (e.g. vaccines manufacture, circular economy and tech-facilitated domestic abuse). The role leads the ongoing strategic development of the PIU, including delivering first-class outputs and cultivating strong and sustained relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, so that, high quality policy engagement continues to increase UCL Engineering’s policy impact.

**About you**:
Significant experience working in the UK policy setting and a good understanding of policymaking in the UK will be essential to undertake this role. Expertise in policy areas where the PIU is active, such as health, circular economy, tech and computing, is not essential but would be advantageous. Excellent communication and networking skills are key as is experience in engaging and influencing senior colleagues. Experience of managing and developing a team as well as financial management, such as budgeting, financial reporting and analysis will also be required.
