**Job summary**:
The Home Office has one of the most challenging and critical jobs in Whitehall: to keep Britain safe, secure our Borders and protect the vulnerable. We operate at the heart of the Government's agenda, leading on immigration and passports, drugs policy, crime policy, counter-extremism and counter-terrorism and state threats, and work to ensure visible, responsive and accountable policing in the UK. The challenges the Department faces are significant and can change rapidly in the global environment in which we operate, making this one of the most exciting and stimulating Government Departments in which to work.

The Health, Safety and Wellbeing Team provides professional health and safety policy, guidance, advice, expertise and support to approximately 41,000 Home Office staff based around the globe. The risk profile of roles in the Home Office means we are looking for someone who has the ability to think innovatively and test normal understanding of risk and compliance; the team are currently heavily involved in work to support the organisation through COVID-19 recovery management.

**Job description**:
There are two roles available:
**People Safety Business Partner (2 posts)**
- Manage the pan Home Office health and safety network of appointed health and safety managers (excluding Border Force) and persons responsible for health and safety across the directorates in the Home Office providing information, advice and support and organising events/CPD support etc.
- Answer complex queries from the network and manage the delivery of the Health and Safety Team’s inbox service that has a KPI to respond to all enquiries within 48 hours.
- Manage and oversee the Department’s Display Screen Equipment (DSE) system.
- Provide cover for the Accident Incident Business Partner in peak service periods and during planned and unplanned absences including undertaking desktop and actual site investigations.
- Lead reviews and implement required changes as required for a number of people safety services across the Department. These will include remote working, driving on official duty, work experience, young persons, new and expectant mothers, musculoskeletal (MSDs), and asbestos personnel records.
- Be responsible for managing the library of Health and Safety Policies on the Health and Safety Team’s SharePoint site.
- Hold the duty to maintain and update the policy control sheet and ensure all policies are updated aligned to legal, guidance and best practice changes as required.

**Health and Safety Auditors (2 posts)**

Initially, deliver the 23/24 Year 1 Health and Safety System Audit programme across the Department including working in partnership with directorates and business units building their first line defence, delivering targeted second line defence audits in Immigration Enforcement and Customer Services Group and third line audits for Border Force.

Then design and rollout Years 2 and 3 of the audit programme to complete a full Health and Safety System Audit Programme, including supporting third party (external) delivered audits. Building plan, do, check and act (P-D-C-A) into every part of the health and safety management system.

The ambition in the Home Office is to achieve ISO/45001 International Standard certification for the system aligned to One Home Office. Ultimately this will mean preparing the system for implementation and certification.

These posts are available on a full-time or part-time basis with the possibility of flexible working (not home working).

They can be based at any of the locations listed and, in line with HO Hybrid Working policy, there will be flexibility to adopt a hybrid working pattern which would see the post holders spend 40% of their week in the office, with the remainder working from home.

Travel within the UK will be required.

**Person specification**:
**Essential criteria**
- Able to manage own portfolio of work as well as working with team members on cross cutting pieces of work;
