The Intensive Family Coach Team is part of the Family and Youth Resilience Service within AfC Early Help Directorate. The Multi-agency service works alongside statutory practitioners to undertake direct, specialist work with children, young people and families.

About the role

The role of the Family Coach is to manage a caseload effectively and engage and support referred families with entrenched, complex and multiple needs. The post holder will have experience of working with parents involving domestic abuse, substance misuse or mental health difficulties. The Family Coach is required to work at an intensive level in partnership with children and families and other agencies to enable children and families to sustain positive change and therefore increase resilience and reduce the need for professional support. The role will ensure high levels of quality interventions to children, young people and their families that are open to Children’s Social Care, in particular Child Protection plans and Court proceedings. It will also involve direct family intervention using systemic approaches, supporting return home transition or supporting professionals to deliver activities. The approach will follow AfC’s social work practice model, Signs of Safety, agreed quality standards and operating procedures. This role will represent AfC at operational and strategic multi agency and others meetings as appropriate.

The post holder will hold clear professional boundaries and set realistic goals with families and record all interventions effectively with a strong focus on putting children and young people first in decision making and interventions. AfC will expect the post holder to undertake continued professional development to drive improvements and success across all functions of the role.

About you
- Educated to a level 4 qualification in a relevant field i.e. Youth Work, Social Care Education, Criminal Justice, Family Support/Parenting or equivalent by demonstrable training and experience
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection risk, signs and approaches to ensure it is child focused.
- Experience of working with adults whereby domestic abuse, substance misuse or adult mental health have been presenting issues.
- Experience of working with vulnerable or disadvantaged families (including CSE) with complex needs and ability to design, implement and evaluate interventions that deliver positive outcomes.
- Experience of working effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
