An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experience and motivated leader to join the Directorate of Medicine at George Eliot Hospital NHS Trust.

As Matron you will work within the Medicine Directorate, taking responsibility for setting the standards and quality in the development, implementation and evaluation of patient care. Supported by the Associate Chief Nurse, Head of Nursing and additional Matrons you will form part of a motivational nursing team. The Matron role is to provide professional and clinical leadership for all the nursing staff, ensuring the delivery of patient focused high quality standards of care are delivered to ensure patient safety and a positive patient experience, supporting the delivery of national and local strategic and operational service objectives.

You will work closely with the operations team across the directorate to support our patients to benefit from a strong and vibrant multi-disciplinary team approach where patients come first in all we do, covering a rota including weekend work.

You will have a passion for developing staff and creating a learning environment across your wards and departments and demonstrate exceptional leadership enabling and empowering your teams.

**This Matron role is required to**:
Ensure delivery of high quality patient-centred care and effective management of resources. This involves provision of clinical expertise, professional leadership, educational/research and operational managerial responsibilities

Lead and manage inpatient services, delivering safe and effective high quality nursing care, within available resources.

Provide professional advice and support to specialty teams and service line colleagues.

Work in collaboration with service users and carers and ensure that all aspects of the Directorate’s service delivery are underpinned and evaluated by the patients and service user’s experience

Ensure that nursing and professional practice is guided by principles of good clinical practice.

Act as an exemplar and professional role-model in embracing core values of dignity, respect, care and compassion.

Ensure completion and monitoring of quality and clinical performance indicators.

Be aware of, and keep updated on, wider issues affecting future professional practice in the wider context of the NHS and ensure these are communicated to the members of the team.

Provide high visible, authoritative leadership and management to deliver services within an agreed model.

Ensure that the environment in which care is delivered meets national standards and is compliant with all environmental inspections.

Work to establish effective multi-disciplinary working and continued integration within and across teams.

Main duties

Clinical Responsibilities

Provide a visible presence in the clinical areas and be accessible to patients, families and carers

Undertake clinical shifts to maintain developed skills and clinical credibility.

Develop clear processes and establish appropriate staffing models to meet patient demand within resources available

Monitor national and local quality standards

Educate staff in relation to Trust protocols and procedures

Ensure the delivery of nursing care, which is benchmarked against best practice; using care quality indicators for performance monitoring

Work with ward managers, ward staff and clinical teams to ensure high standards of clinical care are delivered to patients at all times

Ensure that clinical environments maintain all infection and prevention and control

Ensure that environmental cleaning standards are maintained and that compliance to cleaning audits and other inspection specifications are met within areas of responsibility
