Luton, United Kingdom East London NHS Foundation Trust Full time

A full time Band 7 CAMHS Clinician (Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist/Clinical Social Worker/Clinical Psychologist/Counselling Psychologist/CBT Therapist/Mental Health Nurse),2 year fixed term contract, with a Doctoral or equivalent degree and professional registration, based in Luton Youth Partnership Service, part of the ELFT CAMH Emotional and Behavioural Team.

We have an opportunity within our aspirational Youth Partnership Service (YPS) for a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist/Clinical Social Worker/Clinical Psychologist/Counselling Psychologist/CBT Therapist/Mental Health Nurse with substantive experience in specialist CAMH Services and an enthusiasm for increasing access to mental health support for children and young people through innovative service development.

The development of the Youth Partnership Service is a key element of the overall Luton Council Children’s Transformation Programme. A whole family and contextual safeguarding approach will be employed, and will be achieved by joint working arrangements and close partnership with the range of services available to families including the Early Help offer. The aspirational model of practice is based on a resilience, systems and trauma-informed care approach to family working and compliments the current Strengthening Families and Family Safeguarding Model in Luton Borough Council as well as ELFT CAMH Service’s resilience and community-based approach to early mental health support and intervention.

ELFT CAMH Services in Luton have developed a comprehensive model of care for children and families in Luton following the Thrive model, with getting advice and getting help service provision being provided through embedded clinicians working in partnership with agencies, such as schools, provisions, GPs and Early Help. The Emotional and Behavioural Team are located within our broader multi-disciplinary specialist child mental health services. These services include our Adolescent Mental Health Team Neurodevelopmental, Eating Disorder and Children Looked After Teams, as well as Crisis, Home Treatment and Intensive Support Service. We are also in the process of opening an Adolescent Inpatient Unit in the locality.

The YPS is a dynamic and innovative partnership which includes youth justice, targeted youth, edge of care, specialist education officers, health and mental health practitioners working together to meet the contextual safeguarding needs of children and young people in Luton. The YPS will see intensive specialist support put in place around the child and family to manage risk and need much earlier in their journey.

The post holder will be delivering Mental Health intervention to meet the needs of the young people aged 11-17 years and their families requiring support through YPS, within the principles of the agreed model of care for the service as laid down in the operational policy. This includes providing direct mental health assessment and therapeutic interventions for young people accessing the YPS service. The post holder will also be part of an exciting service development project in relation to mental health support within the YPS which will be implementing low intensity/early intervention support for young people through Children and Young People Wellbeing Practitioners (CWPs). The post holder will be required to offer supervision to these practitioners and experience and knowledge of utilising Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and low intensity/early interventions will be a great asset to the post.

The post offers an exciting opportunity to develop and build strong multi-agency relationships and delivery of community based mental health service provision for young people and their families in Luton.
