London, United Kingdom Whittington Health NHS Trust Full time

The Mainstream and Special Schools Services in Haringey are looking for an experienced, highly skilled and innovative speech and language therapist with a real enthusiasm for working with children and young people from the ages of 3 to 19 in mainstream schools and colleges and expertise in the area of autism and social communication difficulties. This role is ideal for those wishing to continue developing their clinical expertise whilst also contributing to service planning and developing early management skills.

The Mainstream Schools Service works in all the primary and secondary schools in Haringey alongside Specialist Language Support and Autism Teachers from the Local Authority. Our large, friendly team comprises newly qualified and experienced therapists who all share a commitment to work closely with schools in Haringey to provide an excellent service for children with language and communication disorders attending mainstream school.

The Special Schools Service works across the 4 special schools in Haringey alongside a multidisciplinary team of health staff, educational staff and social services colleagues. Our team comprises of specialist staff who work predominately with students with complex needs from 3 years - 19 years of age.

Within the mainstream team, the post holder will manage and organise their own clinical caseload in addition to taking the lead for service delivery into a small cluster of schools grouped by locality, supporting junior therapists, making decisions about prioritisation and building strong relationships with these schools. They will also take a lead in providing support and expertise to the mainstream team in the area of autism and social communication difficulties

As part of the special schools team, the post holder will be managing and organising the therapy, and assessment needs for students at the Haringey sixth form centre, and supervising a more junior member of staff. There is a relatively small caseload of students at Haringey sixth form centre and the therapy will consist of managing the needs using a universal and targeted approach to therapy and fulfilling the needs indicated on their EHCP.

The post holder will receive regular supervision from a Lead therapist and will have opportunities to work closely with our established team of Highly Specialist SLTs within the service.

Whittington Health serves a richly diverse population and works hard to ensure that all our services are fair and equally accessible to everyone. Nowhere is this more obvious than in the way we look after our staff. We aim to employ a workforce which is as representative as possible of this population, so we are open to the value of differences in age, disability, gender, marital status, pregnancy and maternity, race, sexual orientation, and religion or belief. The Trust believes that as a public sector organisation we have an obligation to have recruitment, training, promotion and other formal employment policies and procedures that are sensitive to these differences. We think that by doing so, we are better able to treat our patients as well as being a better place to work.
