We are looking for an enthusiastic and creative person to work as an Activity Coordinator on Crystal House, a 5 bedded inpatient unit for young people with Learning Disabilities. The young people we work with have a range of needs and experiences, and benefit from personalised and group based activity programmes.

The Activity Coordinator will support the Occupational Therapy team and wider multidisciplinary team in organising and facilitating activities that meet the therapeutic goals of the young people admitted to the unit.

The successful applicant may have contact with patients or service users. As an NHS Trust we strongly encourage and support vaccination as this remains the best way to protect yourself, your family, your colleagues and of course patients and service users when working on our healthcare settings.

To provide interventions with personal recovery principles in order to improve the young people’s quality of life and to support them to do the things they want to do and live the life they want to lead

To facilitate a programme of social, creative and skills-based activities to both individuals and groups which promotes social inclusion for service users.

To work closely with the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) in leading on the facilitation of activities.

Working in our Learning Disability Service

Within our inpatient Learning Disability service, you will be part of a strong and developing therapies team, which works closely with our multi-disciplinary colleagues. Our focus is on improving the lives of the people we work with and supporting their discharge to community settings where they can thrive. We work within a Positive Behaviour Support model, drawing on trauma informed approaches which acknowledge the experiences people have had that have brought them to the point of admission.

To provide culturally appropriate activities in line with the service user’s identified package of care

To support service users to engage in social, diversional and recreational activities, that reflect recovery goals.

3. To support service users to develop daily living skill and assist them in managing their self-care in line with their care plan.

4. To escort service users to therapeutic and treatment programmes as required.

5. To safeguard the health, safety and welfare of service users at all times.

6. To practice within a personal recovery framework which supports social inclusion and self-management.

7. To monitor service users’ mental state, assess risk and manage it effectively, in line with risk policies and local guidelines.

8. To provide care for service users who may be distressed or present with challenging behaviour.

9. To have the ability to work within an environment that may expose individuals to verbal and physical abuse.

10. To be sensitive to the safeguarding needs of children and adults, and knowledgeable about potential indicators of abuse or neglect and how to respond.

11. To assist in the assessment process with the support of an Occupational Therapist (OT).

12. To plan, implement and review a range of individual and group activities, under the supervision and direction of an OT.

13. To be aware of community resources and work in partnership with other agencies, for example by using community leisure resources.

Communication

To form positive working relationships, using effective communication skills with compassion, warmth and empathy.

2. To demonstrate skills in communication when barriers to understanding are present, including utilising interpreting resources.

3. To maintain partnership working with the other statutory and non-statutory providers.

4. To attend and contribute to relevant clinical and business meetings.

5. To raise awareness of activities to all service users and professionals within the team.
