The PRU is a collaboration involving a range of UK universities and its aim is to inform policymaking regarding addiction-related behaviours, products, and systems. The PRU’s remit includes alcohol, tobacco and nicotine, other drugs, and gambling. Research conducted within the PRU will draw on quantitative and qualitative methods from different disciplinary perspectives and be underpinned by PPIE at every stage and level. This is the first of several roles that the Addictions PRU will be advertising over the next few weeks.

The person appointed will be based in the Addictions Department at King’s College London (KCL), will report to Professor Joanne Neale (PPIE lead for the PRU), and be accountable to the PRU’s directors and management team. The appointee will work closely with Mr Paul Lennon (deputy PPIE lead) and be central to the PRU’s PPIE activities. To this end, they will collaborate with academics and experts by experience associated with a range of universities, PPIE panels, and organisations across the UK.

This post will be offered on a fixed-term contract for 2 years. This is a full-time post - 100% full time equivalent, job shares and part-time appointments will also be considered.

Key responsibilities

Help recruit people with lived and living experience to the PRU PPIE network, ensuring equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Establish and manage a database of PPIE contacts and interests

Organise inductions, training and mentoring for people with living and lived experience, assess their safeguarding needs, and provide general advice and support.

Organise room bookings, online meetings, face-to-face meetings, travel and payments for PPIE.

Be responsible for taking meeting minutes relating to PPIE.

Contribute to the PPIE strategy for the PRU and PPIE strategies for individual research projects within the PRU and potentially beyond.

Provide accessible verbal and written information on PPIE activities in a range of formats and for different audiences, including people with lived experience and researchers.

Attend meetings and facilitate effective communication between PPIE collaborators, researchers, and other collaborators.

Provide training and support on PPIE to PRU researchers and collaborators.

Be responsible for completing six-monthly PPIE monitoring and impact forms.

Contribute to other areas of research as needed and co-author publications
- The above list of responsibilities may not be exhaustive, and the post holder will be required to undertake such tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be expected within the scope and grading of the post._
