Research Assistant

The fundamental aim of the post is to use a scientific convergent quantitative and qualitative methods approach to implement and evaluate creative, dissemination strategies, avenues, and activities (from web-based/remote to face-to-face) that invite numerous stakeholders (e.g., members of the public, NHS mental health staff, mental health charities, academics) to not only share in the work of the CARMS, but to ‘have a voice’ in the work of CARMS going forward.
**The post-holder needs to have**:
Personal experience of mental health problems.
Experience of working with stakeholders in mental health contexts (e.g., service-users, mental health charities, a range of NHS mental health professionals).
Scientific skills and knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methodologies and analyses (i.e., a good undergraduate degree in psychology and an obtained or predicted merit in master’s level degree in clinical and health/health psychology).
An understanding of how to use technology to create impact.
A desire to work creatively with artists and the arts; and vi. excellent communication skills.
The post-holder will receive line management support from the CARMS Co-Principal Investigators, Dr Patricia Gooding (Chief Investigator), and Professor Gillian Haddock (Co-Principal Investigator) in the University of Manchester and Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH).
The research assistant will be working on the CARMS (Cognitive AppRoches to coMbatting Suicidality) project. CARMS tests the effectiveness of a new psychological intervention for people with suicidal ideation who also have experiences of psychosis and seeks to understand the psychological pathways underpinning suicidal thoughts and behaviours. There are three time points of baseline, 6-months, and 12-months follow-up. CARMS commenced January 2017. Nested quantitative and qualitative methods and analyses were used throughout CARMS. Data collection has now finished. The post focuses on dissemination activities. It brings together Expert-By-Experience skill-sets with ‘dissemination with impact’ initiatives. Genuine co-production between the post-holder and members of the CARMS SURG (Service User Reference Group) is seen as central.
