Aylesbury Central PCN have an exciting opportunity for a General Practice Assistant to join their expanding network team. We are looking for someone enthusiastic hardworking and willing to work towards a GP Assistant Certificate qualification.

**Main duties of the job**

A GP Assistant will support the smooth running of clinics by performing routine administration and clinical tasks on behalf of the clinican freeing up their time to focus on complex patients. You will work closely with patients, management teams, partners, and external contacts.

You will work as a key part of the Primary Care Network (PCN) multi-disciplinary team to improve the quality and safety of care offered to patients.

**Responsibilities**

There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent on factors such as workload and staffing levels.
- Completing basic (non-opinion) forms for the GP to approve and sign (such as insurance forms, mortgage forms, DS1500, prescription exemption, waste collection).
- Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP.
- Performing initial clinical observations, which include urinalysis, BMI, ECGs, phlebotomy, SATS, Temperature, Pulse Postural BP, Peak Flow Tests.
- Completing initial mental health checks (e.g., depression score, anxiety score)
- Arranging appointments, referrals and follow up appointments of patients.
- Completing Glucose Screening Tests for patients and testing for Ketones.
- Submitting referrals as directed by GPs, through EMIS - including two week waits, urgent referrals, District Nurse referrals and Wheelchair Service referrals.
- Taking patient's blood pressure, including Manual Blood Pressure checks.
- Sending basic letters to patients or consultations, as directed by GP’s.
- Taking Blood Tests and reviewing the results to mark normal results as complete or refer abnormal results to a GP.
- Explaining treatment and follow up procedures to patients.
- Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies, e.g. contacting an on-call doctor by phone to ask advice or helping to arrange admission while the GP continues with their consultation(s).
- Providing sickness absence cover for administration and clinical duties within multi-disciplinary teams (e.g., phlebotomy clinics).

**Essential**
- Experience of coordinating tasks and liaising with multiple colleagues both internal and external to the organisation
- Experience of using technology and digital tools

**Desirable**
- Primary Care experience as a Healthcare Assistant, Practice Administrator, or other.
- Experience of working with healthcare professionals and or previous experience in the NHS or social care or relevant field
- Experience of using clinical systems such as Emis

**Qualifications**
- Willing to work towards a GP Assistant Certificate qualification
