Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust Community Childrens Nursing Team are looking to recruit a dynamic and enthusiastic Band 4 Assistant Practitioner to work within a team of Nurses, supporting children within the special schools of Walsall and Children/young people requiring nursing intervention at home.

You will need excellent communication and clinical skills and have experience of working within a team; you will be required to use electronic patient record systems, in addition to this you will have good time management and be able to prioritise your own work load.

Be prepared to increase clinical skills and support the wider Paediatric department as required.

The post holder would be expected to work flexibly as required through a Monday-Friday service

Job Summary
- To support members of the Community Children’s Nursing service to provide an effective, evidence based service to children and young people with additional needs, disabilities, long term conditions, life limiting and life threatening conditions, and their families in Walsall special schools and within the team through delivery of high quality nursing care.
- To make an effective contribution to the continuing development of the Community Children’s Nursing Service.

Key Responsibilities
- To work under the direction and guidance of registered nursing staff, undertaking routine clinical duties as required in line with attained competencies

- To carry out allocated clinical procedures, once deemed competent, (e.g. feeding through a nasogastric tube, Gastrostomy; Tracheostomy care including suction; administration of medication etc.) under direction of registered, qualified nursing staff. Ensuring skills are kept up to date. The list is not exhaustive and skills can be built on dependent on competency and ability.
- To ensure that the required standards of hygiene and cleanliness are maintained and ensure infection control policy and practice is adhered to.

Employees must comply with Walsall Local Safeguarding Board Child Protection Procedures and Trust Child Protection Procedures and recognise the importance of listening to children. All employees must attend child protection training relevant to their role and know how to seek advice or support from their manager or the Safeguarding Children team if required.

Infection Control

Employees will work to minimise any risk to clients, the public and other employees from Healthcare Associated Infection including MRSA andC. difficileby ensuring that they are compliant with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 - Code of Practice (and as amended from time to time) for the prevention and control of Healthcare Associated Infections (The Hygiene Code); and by ensuring that they are familiar with the organisations Infection Control polices located on the Intranet.

- To participate in the care of named children, to meet their physical and emotional needs, and undertake delivery of care plans under supervision of qualified staff.
- To give support and guidance to parents in the delivery of planned care.
- To work in partnership with parents and appropriate agencies and organisations to ensure the delivery of care for their child.
- Accurately record information on patient care, using the Trust’s systems and keep an accurate diary which reflects daily work and mileage.
