Infection Prevention and Control Practitioner

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a registered practitioner (Allied Health Professional, Nurse or Midwife) to join the Infection Prevention and Control Team within Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust.

You will work as a member of the Infection Prevention and Control Team contributing to the day to day maintenance and further development of a high quality, proactive, responsive and accessible infection prevention and control service for the community of Walsall. The successful applicant will provide clinical expertise and advice on the prevention, surveillance, investigation and control of infection, to all disciplines of staff.
Applications are invited for a full time and part time Infection Prevention and Control practitioner (Band 5/6 dependant on experience) post to work within the infection prevention and control team providing a Trust wide service for the prevention, surveillance, investigation and control of infection within the Trust.
The role will include infection prevention and control audits in a range of settings including the acute hospital and community settings, supporting the monitoring and follow up of infections and work with other members of the Infection Control Team to promote good infection control practice via education.
The post holder will need to demonstrate an ability to work both independently and as part of a team, be enthusiastic, motivated and forward thinking.
Experience of managing projects and the ability to set own priorities and meet tight deadlines essential.
Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust provides integrated acute and community Healthcare in the West Midlands serving a population of 260,000 residents. Walsall Manor Hospital houses the full range of district general hospital services. The £170 million development was completed in 2010 and we are continually upgrading. Construction of the new integrated critical care unit was completed in 2018, extension of a Neonatal Unit and an approved plan to build a brand new, state of the art Emergency Department which will commence in 2021.
Participate in the review and implementation of infection related policies and procedures
Participate in the surveillance of healthcare acquired infection
To assist in the Investigation and to provide support during outbreaks of infection.
To participate in the implementation of infection control audits and assist in the preparation of reports and action plans.
To provide specialist infection prevention and control advice on healthcare new builds and renovation projects, equipment purchases and clinical waste management, to meet national guidance and local standards.
Liaise with other departments regarding infection control related issues.
