Royal Trinity Hospice is seeking a highly skilled senior nurse with excellent leadership and management skills to lead and develop the hospice inpatient unit.

The inpatient unit (IPU) is a 28-bedded unit providing specialist palliative and end of life care for patients with life limiting illness in our catchment area across SW London and parts of NW London. The nursing team is supported by an expert multidisciplinary team including doctors, physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, social workers and counsellors committed to delivering high quality, holistic care to patients and those close to them. The team works closely with specialist community nursing and we provide support into bereavement.

You will lead the nursing team supporting a culture aligned to our FREDIE principles (Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion and Engagement). You will have excellent leadership skills and a commitment to supporting staff development to ensure the delivery of high quality care. You will work closely with heads of clinical services and be part of the hospice Senior Leadership Team.

Overall Purpose of the role

The provision of integrated, holistic, equitable and effective palliative care delivered by the hospice Inpatient unit (IPU) which will, through the active involvement of patients and those close to them, maximise the quality of life for all patients and provide appropriate support to those close to them.

Provide visible and effective leadership and management to all directly and indirectly managed staff which will achieve purpose and Trinity’s vision and values.
Develop and maintain an organisational culture which is inclusive and empowering, promotes trust, respect and responsibility and delivers positive and sustainable change.
Develop and maintain organisational systems and processes which support the delivery of high-quality integrated patient care, team working and communication.
Actively contribute to the Patient Services management team and hospice Senior Leadership Team, taking individual and corporate responsibility for effectiveness and development.
Skills and experience required
1st level Registered Nurse registered with the NMC
Significant experience of nursing and service management within a health care sector setting including recruitment and retention
Experience of providing nursing leadership at a senior level and knowledge of relevant professional nursing issues
Significant experience of providing direct patient services
Experience of developing and maintaining effective inter-disciplinary team working structures and systems
Experience of developing and implementing professional development programmes for nursing staff Experience of implementing and maintaining performance management strategies including appraisal, audit, quality assurance and outcome mechanisms
Experience of budgeting and financial management
