**Job summary**:
The responsibilities for the Department for Energy Security & Net Zero for 2023 are as follows:

- Delivering security of energy supply

For 2023, our priorities are:

- Ensure security of energy supply this winter, next winter and in the longer-term - bringing down energy bills and reducing inflation.
- Ensure the UK is on track to meet its legally binding Net Zero commitments and support economic growth by significantly speeding up delivery of network infrastructure and domestic energy production.
- Improve the energy efficiency of UK homes, businesses and public sector buildings to meet the 15% demand reduction ambition.
- Deliver current schemes to support energy consumers with their bills and develop options for long-term reform to improve how the electricity market works for families and businesses.
- Seize the economic benefits of Net Zero, including the jobs and growth created through investment in new green industries.
- Pass the Energy Bill to support the emerging CCUS and hydrogen sectors; to update the governance of the energy system; and to reduce the time taken to consent offshore wind.

**Job description**:
Our team sits within the Hydrogen and Industrial Carbon Capture Directorate, a fast-paced and exciting directorate that is at the heart of energy and climate policy. The team is helping to select and negotiate support terms for the UK's first industrial carbon capture and CCUS-enabled hydrogen projects and this role will involve significant engagement with industry, external advisors and cross government colleagues. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of a large emerging industry. Exposing you to the design and delivery of the UK government's ambitious allocation of support to carbon capture.

The role will focus on participating in active commercial negotiations with potential CCUS projects and coordinating their continued due diligence. You would be involved in negotiations with CCUS projects at the forefront of this sector's development that are looking for substantial revenue and capital support.

**Person specification**:
In this role your responsibilities will focus on helping to select those projects that will be eligible for support through the ICC business model and supporting the negotiation of contract and grant terms. This is an exciting position offering excellent learning and development opportunities, with substantial responsibility supporting negotiation of high value contracts in a vital emerging sector.

In total the work will require:

- Working collaboratively with a range of teams across the directorate, including technical assurance teams, internal corporate finance experts and other CCUS supply chain negotiating teams. As well as managing financial, legal and technical consultants.
- Co-ordinate any commercial, financial or legal due diligence required on applicant projects and lead on resolving project specific issues.
- Support commercial negotiations with individual projects. This will likely involve leading on developing knowledge on due diligence issues and certain negotiable provisions for the contract, presenting advice and producing material to support senior members of the team and experts to finalise contracts.
