**Purpose of the job**

To set up and operate equipment associated with machining activities to include a variety of lathes, turning centres and borers for the Service Centre to ensure all work is achieved to the required standards, time, costs and customer satisfaction. The role will also include carrying out basic mechanical fitting work.

**Main tasks and responsibilities**

1. Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.

2. Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, machining centres, borers, and grinders.

4. Measure, examine, and test completed components in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications.

5. Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic turning & machining centres and machining tools in order to perform precision machining operations.

6. Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.

7. Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.

8. Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.

9. Lay out, measure, and mark metal stock in order to display placement of cuts.

10. Monitoring and reviewing information from materials, events, or the environment, to detect or assess problems.

11. Inspecting equipment, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.

12. Analysing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.

13. Accurately measure mating component parts on various assemblies to determine acceptable fits and propose repair methods

14. Dismantling and assembly of motors, gearboxes and pumps. Measuring and recording build tolerances and ability to determine parts that require repair.

15. Assembly and fitting of white metal bearings.

16. Complete required paperwork (including photography) for each job accurately and on a timely basis

17. Execute all work in an efficient, professional and timely manner

18. Report any defective or warranty workmanship in a timely manner.

19. Ensure that all time sheets and stores requisition sheets are checked and signed off correctly and in the accepted timeline.

20. Ensuring all work meets the appropriate standards and quality control criteria as set out by the company.

21. Adhere to Health and Safety responsibilities at all times including GPR 5 Annex E, and follow all appropriate procedures and use the appropriate protective equipment.

22. Ensure that risks and hazards in activities undertaken in the role are acknowledged and conducted in accordance with processes, procedure and measures in place to mitigate risks

23. Be familiar with environmental aspects of activities undertaken in the role and the procedures and processes underpinning.

24. Ensure that the work, including tooling and equipment, is kept clean and tidy in accordance with company initiatives such as LEAN and in accordance with health and safety requirements.

Experience required:

- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings
- Flexibility and ability to adapt to change
- Numerate, methodical and practical skills are essential
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to work alone or as part of a team

Additional Requirements (not essential):

- A recognised Mechanical engineering apprenticeship or City and Guilds qualification, or equivalent
- Experience with working with all types of mechanical (electrical - motor components) rotating equipment.
- Previous demonstrable experience within a mechanical (electrical) workshop environment
- Experience preferred in dismantling and assembly of motors, gearboxes and pumps.
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements
- Full and valid driving license is preferred
