Lancaster, United Kingdom Lancaster City Council Full time

**Why Lancaster?**

We’re an award-winning, kind and responsible council, and we’re incredibly proud of our district and communities that reach from the coast to the mountains, including the historic City of Lancaster, Morecambe, Carnforth and many other beautiful places.

**The Role**

We are looking for a temporary part-time Project Officer to manage and deliver the King’s Own Royal Regiment Museum’s Abyssinia (Napier Expedition) project.

This is an exciting project that will place the King’s Own Royal Regiment Museum at the forefront of regimental museums in terms of addressing the contexts surrounding the colonial-era legacy of the regiment.

The project aims to develop the participative practice of the King’s Own Trustees and Lancaster City Museums with regard to the Regiment’s colonial-era service.

We intend to work with experts, members of source communities and other local groups to understand better the objects in the collection, enabling us to tell the story in a more inclusive manner.

The project will conclude with the development of a Restitution & Repatriation Policy for both the King’s Own Royal Regiment Museum Trust and Lancaster City Museums.

This project is being delivered by the King’s Own Royal Regiment Museum Trust in partnership with Lancaster City Museums and the post will be managed through Lancaster City Council.

**This post is fixed term for 2 years.**

**The salary for this role is £26,845 - £32,020 per annum pro rata**

The hours of work for this position are 14.8 per week, working pattern to be agreed with some evening and weekend work. The Council currently operates a Flexible Working Hours Scheme which applies to this post. This post is based at the City Museum

For internal applicants, this role will be considered for a secondment opportunity. The secondment of an employee from another Service can only take place with the agreement of the Manager of the Service the applicant is contracted to. When this role comes to an end, the successful internal applicant will return to their substantive role.

**About You**

You will have good knowledge of the decolonising museums agenda and debate and the ethical issues that it presents. You will also be able to demonstrate evidence of understanding of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion practice from professional or lived experience.

You will have good experience of managing a heritage or cultural project and of working in a museum or heritage environment. You will also have managed heritage or cultural volunteers and have experience of display work, social media and webpage work and working with community organisations.

You will identify with our organisational values of Pride, Ownership, Working Together and Ambition.

Lancaster City Council has unanimously declared a climate emergency and will therefore work towards reducing carbon emissions to net-zero by 2030. As part of this role, you will be expected to participate and work towards reducing both carbon emissions and the impacts of climate change.

We are a disability confident committed employer.
