**Job Purpose**
The Head of Research Governance, Policy & Integrity is a leadership role providing specialist advice and outstanding professional service delivery in support of the University's strategic vision and objectives. Reporting to the Executive Director of Research Services the incumbent will be expected to work collaboratively with fellow Heads of Portfolio as part of the Research Services leadership team.

Areas of focus include oversight of the strategic and operational direction of the University's research assessment-readiness work including the Research Excellence Framework, providing an environment in which researchers (both staff and PGR students) can conduct their research to the uppermost standards and of the highest quality, and supporting researchers and research professional staff to navigate compliance requirements. To this end the incumbent will develop strong partnerships with key external and internal stakeholders, undertake planning, evaluation and continuous improvement of services offered, and support the development and implementation of effective University-wide policies and processes.

Staff in Research Services collaborate across the University and externally to ensure that academic staff, postgraduate researchers, other research professional staff and our stakeholders are provided with proactive services. We are part of University Services, and work in partnership with Professor Chris Pearce, Vice Principal Research & Knowledge Exchange and Ms Uzma Khan, Vice Principal Economic Development & Innovation.

Research Services comprises of five portfolios: the Advanced Research Centre; research culture & people; research governance, policy & integrity; research impact & engagement; and strategic research initiatives.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**
As a member of the Research Services senior leadership team, work collaboratively to foster a positive and inclusive work environment, including:

- supporting staff to succeed and thrive in their roles and to meet current and future; strategic and operational requirements through a culture of continuous improvement;
- supporting staff to display service excellence; take ownership of the delivery of agreed objectives; and value working collaboratively, connecting with people and building relationships within and outside of the University.

As a member of the Research Services senior leadership team, work collaboratively within the leadership team, including:

- providing values-driven leadership and management to deliver timely services that meet the evolving needs of the University and further develop the Research Services team culture and collaborative leadership approach;
- contributing to the regular meetings, strategic planning, joint initiatives, ongoing development and reporting;
- representing and promoting Research Services at both internal and external committees or events, deputising for the Executive Director of Research Services as required;
- overseeing the development, timely revision, socialising and implementation of university research-related policies, processes, guidance, audits and reports related to research governance, trusted research, integrity and misconduct, in order to meet national and international legislation and concordat commitments and internal requirements;
- leading on Research Services activities beyond the immediate remit of the Research Governance, Policy & Integrity portfolio, as requested by the Executive Director of Research Services.

The incumbent will be the Research Services lead on research governance and integrity matters, with responsibilities including:

- playing a key role in shaping and delivering the University's strategies and policies for research governance and integrity in line with the University's research strategy and vision and concordat requirements;
- leading the development and cohesion of the University's Trusted Research Agenda, ensuring robust policies and processes are in place for research compliance issues such as Export Controls, the National Securities and Investment Act and the Nagoya Protocol, providing guidance to University colleagues about potential research-related security risks and escalating issues where necessary, working with team members in the research governance & integrity portfolio. In addition, developing the University strategy and associated operational procedures in response to the agenda, raising awareness internally and providing guidance on trusted research, reproducibility, security-sensitive research, export control, research integrity, and governance and misconduct matters; representing the University at
