The Postholder duties include
- Ensures that medical devices and consumables procured by the Trust represent the best Value For Money, taking into account the balance between price, whole-life cost, clinical risk, and patient outcomes.
- Supports the Strategy & Innovation team in developing and managing the interface between the clinical and procurement functions to ensure that change is driven through innovative procurement practice and contract compliance, thus improving patient care through efficient practices.
- Provides clinical support and advice to the procurement team and liaises with clinical colleagues at all levels within Acute and Primary Care Trusts, to ensure compliance in the use of agreed standardised products, and that the range of items within catalogues is rationalised to an optimum level.
- Lead, implement and run product and service trials and evaluations across the multi-sited Trust and works with established Product Evaluation Groups and will create new stakeholder groups to evaluate products and fast track product rationalisation decisions.
- Provides specialist clinical expertise to provide support, advice and training to Procurement team, member Trusts, nurses, medical staff, and other Allied Health Professionals.
- Ensures processes are in place so that effective, collaborative equipment/consumable purchases, trials and long term plans to allow for standardisation using evidence based and innovative practice across the Trust.
- Responsible for providing clinical advice prior to purchasing of medical supplies.
- Make recommendations on choice of product and help to ensure compliance of any change of clinical and non-clinical groups and source clinical alternatives on demand of end-users, ensuring the correct procurement process is adhered to.
- Identify clinical champions within the Trust and support them.
- Provide advice and guidance to the Trust on matters associated with the evaluation, rationalisation and standardisation of existing and new clinical products, medical devices and other goods and services
- Provide advice and guidance to Logistics Managers in stock management and process streamlining to ensure timely and cost effective supply of goods and consumables to clinical areas.
- Liaising with suppliers and stakeholders regarding any new products on the market that may offer better value for money, e.g. prosthetics and enteral feeds.

This vacancy is advertised on a Fixed Term/Secondment basis for the maximum period of 6 months. Where there is potential, the fixed term/secondment may finish early, or in the first instance, the fixed term/secondment may be extended due to the absence of the substantive post holder. The fixed term contract status of the post holder will be reviewed in accordance with the Trust's legal obligations regarding fixed term contracts and secondments in relation to the substantive post holder.
