**Pay**:£11.00 to £12.50 per hour depending on experience and training needs

Training will be in line with the national competency framework with the option, if needed, to complete HEE’s accredited training programme to gain formal certification after around nine months.

**East Bedford Primary Care Network**
Four practices in east Bedford stand together as East Bedford Primary Care Network jointly delivering services that improve outcomes for our combined population of 50,000+ registered patients. These Practices are:

- Putnoe Medical Centre
- Linden Road Surgery
- London Road Surgery
- Cauldwell Medical Practice

As a Primary Care Network (PCN) our aim is to bring together local health and care organisations (including social care, the voluntary sector and patient groups) to work collaboratively to deliver more joined up, patient-centred services.

As part of the NHS Long Term plan, East Bedford PCN is working collaboratively with providers and patients to co-produce solutions to the challenges we face and maximise the impact of our services on quality and outcomes of patient care.

**Job summary**
General Practice Assistants (GPAs) support the smooth running of clinics by performing routine administrative and clinical tasks on behalf of the GP, freeing up their time to focus on the patient.

**Primary responsibilities**
- Arranging appointments, including follow ups. Assist patients to book appointments with most appropriate health professional, eg First Contact Physiotherapists, and assist with signposting patients to services outside the Practice, eg Pharmacies.
- Support the overall management of long-term conditions including patients who do not respond to routine invitations.
- Arranging referrals to other services
- Following up referrals under two-week rules to ensure patients have been seen in secondary service
- Sending patient blood forms for routine tests
- Supporting Practice-based immunisations
- Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP, taking a brief history and basic readings
- Completing simple clinical observations, eg dipstick urine, BP, ECG, phlebotomy.
- Explaining treatment procedures or referral options to patients.
- Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies while the GP can continue with their consultations.
- Dealing with all routine clinical post directly e.g. DNA letters, 2WW etc
- Supporting QOF reviews.
- Act as a chaperone for patients if required
- Other appropriate duties

**Miscellaneous**
- Establish strong working relationships with GPs and practice teams
- Demonstrate a flexible attitude and be prepared to carry out other duties as may be reasonably required from time to time within the general character of the post
- Identify opportunities and gaps in the service - and review risks and issues that could impact on service delivery - and provide feedback to continually improve the service
