We seek a new Head of Charities at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals to helpdrive up income generation, develop a strong supporter base and lasting partnerships so that we can continue to support Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust provide excellence in clinical care across Lancashire and South Cumbria.

As Head of Charities, your role will include oversight of all charity activity across the Hospital Trust, offering expert guidance and best practice from Board to Ward and to clinical colleagues as well as those wishing to fundraise. You will be responsible for:

- Strategic leadership - You will form a key part of the senior leadership team, acting as the charity expert for the Corporate Trustee, and working closely with divisions to ensure fundraising and marketing strategies are realised.
- People management - You will model inclusive and effective leadership across all charity teams.
- Marketing and digital communications strategy and delivery - you will embed the charity and its activity both internally across the organisation as well as externally, ensuring supporter aquisition and retention is considered across all audiences
- Brand ownership. You will own the brand, ensuring the utmost transparency, altruism and professionalism is embedded into all campaigns, digital and social channels, content marketing and communications activity.

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals’ Charity is the official NHS charity partner of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The charity came to life in 2020 at the start of the Covid pandemic, until which time it had been a dormant finance fund.

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Charity isthe umbrella charity tosubsidiary charity Rosemere Cancer Foundation, which supports Cancer treatment and services across Lancashire and South Cumbria. It is alsoparent charity to Baby Beat, a smaller local charity whichsupports maternity services and neonatal intensive care. Like many NHS charities, Lancashire Teaching Hospital Charity also has many divisional charityfunds from which it supports the many specialist services delivered at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust.

The Head of Charities will be the Trust’s professional expert with responsibility for directing and managing the charitable function at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (LTHTR) in order to maximise income and support the provision of excellent care with compassion across the organisation.

STRATEGIC PLANNING

Responsible for developing an operational framework and strategy for Trust wide charitable activity.
- Devise and roll out a comprehensive Trust wide strategy for charitable activity.
- Put in place policies and procedures for the management of charitable activity at LTHTR, including for the allocation of charitable funds.
- Implement a reporting structure for the Managers of Rosemere Cancer Foundation and Baby Beat to ensure a co-ordinated approach to charitable activity within LTHTR.
- Undertake continuous evaluation of performance and prepare regular reports for the Charitable Funds Committee and Trust Board.
- Initiate and develop a guiding ethos for the charity to match the Trust’s values and be reflected in every aspect of the charity’s activity.

FUNDRAISING

Responsible for developing and maximising a sustainable income from a wide portfolio of sources.
- Work with Trust Board and Charitable Funds Committee to identify short, medium and long term funding priorities.
- Devise and roll out a robust fundraising strategy to meet those priorities, maximising income from general donations, donations in memoriam, legacies, corporates, grant making trusts community fundraising and gift aid.
- Proactively seek new avenues of charitable income.
- Liaise with key stakeholders to plan and deliver fundraising campaigns for specific projects.
- Develop and manage a fundraising team, recruiting as and when appropriate according to the demands of the fundraising strategy.
- Ensure that all donors are thanked appropriately and supported to develop an on-going relationship with the charity.
- Ensure that those undertaking fundraising on the charity’s behalf are appropriately advised and supported.

COMMUNICATIONS

Responsible for measurably raising the profile of all LTHTR charities
- ensure consistency and appropriateness of branding and messaging across all charity activity
- Oversee the promotion of charitable activity at LTHTR across all media platforms, internally to staff and externally to patients, relatives and potential supporters, and in the local community as well as across the Trust’s tertiary footprint.
