Bereavement Department -Bereavement Support Officer

37.5 hours a week - full time post permanent contract

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to provide a flexible, efficient administrative service to the Bereavement Office. You must have a good standard of general education and be experienced in a full range of administrative skills. You will also need an excellent telephone manner, a sensitive and caring disposition and have the ability to work under pressure. Previous experience of working in a bereavement setting and previous NHS experience would be an advantage but is not essential. The working pattern is 37.5hrs per week Mon - Fri.

If successful, this vacancy will require an standard DBS check at a cost of£26.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary. In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £13.

- Undertake all of the administrative duties that are required by the Bereavement Office including, arranging hospital funerals, baby funerals, dealing with freedom of information requests, typing, recording information and dealing with enquiries.
- To provide effective delivery of service and identity potential service enhancements or developments and planning of their effective implementation.
- Deal with telephone and general enquiries, ensuring that appropriate messages are relayed or taken.
- Photocopying, scanning and faxing as required.
- Filing as required.
- To deal with administration of all death procedures in accordance with official guidelines and written procedures, this includes dealing with doctors and consultants on a daily basis.
- To process patient property matters in accordance with standing financial instructions, this includes checking and recording items received before securing them in the property safe.
- Deal with post.
- Provide cover where necessary, this includes depositing uncollected items in the night safe when appropriate, lock the bereaved relatives waiting rooms, ensure that the department is safe and secure.
