Social Work Assistant

We are looking to appoint a Social Work Assistant to work under the direction of our team of social workers to support our foster carers and young people placed with them.
The successful applicant must be willing to make a positive difference and achieve change for the children and families we work with. You will receive regular supervision and a comprehensive training programme which will support your career development.
**Qualifications**:
You must have an NVQ level 3 level in Health & Social Care (Children and Young People) or equivalent.
**Responsibilities**:
As a Social Work Assistant, you will be responsible for supporting the social work team to complete their work. This may include completing home visits to undertake annual health & safety checks, completing wishes and feelings for children and young people in placement and regular supervision of foster carers. There may be occasions where you will be asked to attend meetings to support our foster carers at PEPs and CIC Review meetings.
- You will be working to support social workers with their caseloads specifically around Safeguarding.
- To work alongside foster carers providing advice and support where necessary
- From time to time the team deliver direct work with foster carers, children, and young people which you will be a part of
- To be confident in using electronic systems such as CHARMS, to keep records up to date and be able to communicate with people using a variety of different methods
- To work alongside and communicate effectively with social workers and other professionals including child care social workers, legal representatives, GP’s, medical advisors and education
- There is a great deal of flexibility with this post, and you will have the opportunity to work from home once you have built up your skills on an agile basis
- Transporting/escorting children and young people on home/contact visits/school visits
- Contribute to the education and development of the young people
- Attending any training provided by Ideal Fostering
- To be alert to signs of distress or abuse, and to ensure that the young people are monitored and protected and implement recognised safeguarding procedures
- To set appropriate boundaries to help young people manage their behaviour
Whilst there is a need for differentiation of roles and levels of responsibility, for example, between staff and managers, we strongly believe in the principle that we all pull together and, as necessary, turn our hand to getting jobs done which are not normally within our remit.
At all times, the post holder must:
- Maintain positive relations with partner agencies
- Conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times
- Take account of the principles and provisions of children's and other relevant legislation, regulations and guidance and all relevant organisational policies and procedures
- Liaise with the Manager to ensure adequate cover is maintained through the rota, forward planning and managing any unforeseen circumstances.
- Adhere to guidelines laid out within company policies & procedures
- Set an example to other employees, the students, and other professionals

**STAFFING - RECRUITMENT, DEVELOPMENT & RETENTION**
**Staff Recruitment**
The formal interview will include general and specific questioning to ascertain levels of aptitude and knowledge, as well as experience.
No appointments will be made without the necessary references being successfully taken up, with particular emphasis on comments from previous employer. Additionally, the company must be in receipt of a satisfactory Enhanced DBS.
New employees’ suitability and progress will be supported and assessed through supervision and appraisal. The first appraisal will take place after the individual’s successful completion of their probationary period.
**Staff Development & Retention**
Ideal Fostering is committed to the support and development of staff and is aware that this is paramount in retaining quality staff and ensuring that practice meets professional standards.
Supervision is, therefore, the first and on-going provision which is a mandatory requirement for all staff. A structure for supervision will agreed between supervisor and staff member in which each accepts the others’ role, expectations, and responsibilities.
Outcomes of supervision will inform personal development plans and training requirements.
In-house training will be offered to all staff on a regular basis and external training will be sourced where appropriate.
All staff will receive induction training at the commencement of employment which will introduce them to the company and teams.
