Occupational Therapy Assistant
An exciting opportunity has arisen for the position of Occupational Therapy (OT) Assistant within the Neurorehabilitation Service (NRS) OT Team.
NRS is a 5-day multi-disciplinary service based in Bletchley. We work closely with the Neuro-conditions Clinical Specialist Team as well as liaison with many other NHS or voluntary services.
We work with people over the age of 18years who, due to their neurological condition, require a period of rehabilitation in their own homes. As an OT Team we support people to generate and achieve personally meaningful and time limited goals within the areas of self-care, productivity and/or leisure. We then provide individualised and evidenced based interventions to support those we work with to achieve their goals.
The successful applicant will be an NHS employee and may therefore have contact with vulnerable service users. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it has been necessary to take significant steps to protect the health and safety of our staff, service users and those attending our sites. In order to comply with our duty of care, we require our staff to have the COVID vaccine and we will ask for proof of vaccination during the recruitment process. Vaccination will be a condition of employment unless an exemption applies.
Experience of working independently is essential as we work with people, in their own homes, who are living with complex neurological conditions and often other medical conditions also. As you will be working in the community an ability to problem solve, risk assess and manage and, if required, escalate to higher management is essential. You will have an interest in working with people and as part of a team, provide high quality, patient centred interventions as well as contributing towards service efficiency and development. You will be supported by the OT team with close supervision with your line manager, and you will be expected to actively engage within clinical supervision and self-development activities. Following a period of training and inhouse learning, you would be expected to undertake some OT related assessments and carry out treatment plans via the qualified OTs direction.
There’s a place for you at CNWL.
We’re passionate about delivering first-class patient-centred, safe and effective care, whether it is in a hospital setting, a community clinic or in the patient’s own home. Patients are at the heart of everything we do.
CNWL (Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust) has almost 7,000 staff providing integrated healthcare to a third of London's population, Milton Keynes and areas beyond. We involve service users, carers, the public, staff and partner organisations in the way that we are run.
Our catchment area spans diverse communities, with over 100 first languages spoken. It contains areas of great affluence as well as areas of much deprivation. We are committed to providing services that meet the needs of the people who use them, and we actively encourage involvement from local people who can help make a difference. We’re proud of our diversity and we continue to undertake new initiatives to advance equality for LGBT+, BME and people with disabilities to promote good relations and understanding between our staff.
We aim to employ only the best people; our experts are frequently called upon to contribute to national health strategy and policy, and many models of our care have been adapted for use in other countries.
You would be able to work independently, under the supervision of the occupational therapists and other senior health professionals within the multidisciplinary team. In addition to carrying out OT specific assessments and interventions you would also liaise with service users and carers; other members of the multi-disciplinary team; other health and social care agencies responsible for service users’ care; volunteers and the voluntary sector. You would support therapists in administrative tasks related to service management and development (e.g. audit, service reviews, user-feedback systems, clinical governance).
In order to fulfil the job responsibilities in the environments in which these are carried out the job holder is required to:
To travel across areas served by MK Community Health Services.
To move pieces of equipment for own work in accordance to health and safety regulations.
To work with people with emotionally distressing conditions & complex medical needs.
To take responsibility for following Trust’s infection control policy when working with service users to prevent transmission and contraction of infection.
To adhere to the Trusts information policy on security and confidentiality of personal and sensitive information relating to clients, colleagues and the MKCHS/MKFTH.
The job involves accurate recording in professional records information about service users and procedures carried out with service users using the document and computer-based systems in operation in the Trust
