Wincanton operate the transport for our New Look Contract in Lymedale, Stoke on Trent. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health, Safety and Environment Officer to join us, based at this location. This role is a fixed term contract for 4-6 months.

The role holder will report directly to the Business Unit Health & Safety Manager and will provide critical, hands-on support to the operation. The key elements of the role will be to provide the solid framework that allows the team to achieve and maintain a pioneering Health, Safety and Environmental standard on site.

You will support both the main site in Lymedale along with 3 outbase locations (Harlow, Portbury and Scotland) and there may be the requirement for very occasional travel to these sites to support the operational teams.

After an initial training period, this will be a stand alone role with remote support.

The salary is between £32,000 - £36,000 depending on experience.

**How will you contribute?**
- You will play a key role in supporting the delivery of the Health, Safety and Environmental strategies in accordance with Wincanton’s internal procedures
- Ensure all standards meet legislation and advise on and share best practice
- Ensure all sites achieve or surpass the targets set by Wincanton, driving standards from the outset to ensure accidents, incidents and lost time injuries are avoided
- Drive a positive and proactive safety culture throughout all levels of the team to promote operational excellence in safety behaviours
- Co-ordination of all site Health, Safety and Environmental activities including committees, training and communications to ensure sites remain compliant
- Develop appropriate HSE knowledge and expertise within the team
- Undertake risk assessments as required and ensure that existing risk assessments are reviewed & linked to the relevant safe systems of work
- Lead accident investigation and reporting ensuring accurate root causes are identified with adequate corrective actions implemented to prevent reoccurrence
- Ensure that all hazards, near misses, accidents and incidents are recorded correctly and where necessary, escalated within a timely manner using the company safety database system
- Seek Continuous Improvement on all aspects regarding HSE across the contract

**What will you bring?**
- This person will hold a relevant Health and Safety qualification such as NEBOSH certificate
- Needs to be a proactive, effective and motivated team player who can demonstrate a strong capability of engaging with the workforce and be able to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing
- Is able to remain calm and work well under pressure in tight deadline situations, displaying exceptional organisational skills
- Must possess strong Microsoft Office skills
- Must be able to demonstrate a keen interest in continually improving our Health, Safety and Environment performance
- Must hold a current valid UK driving license and be willing to travel as there may be a requirement to support or cover other operations

Although primarily a Monday to Friday role, there may, on occasion, be a requirement for the Health & Safety Officer to support outside of this window dependant on the operational requirements.
