This role will be based at the Aqualate Mere National Nature Reserve base (The Old Pumphouse, Aqualate Estate, Stafford Rd, Newport, TF10 9DB) on the Staffordshire border to the east of Newport, Shropshire.

Aqualate Mere NNR is a wetland nature reserve, which is leased from a local estate. The site is important for its variety of wetland habitats, including the mere itself, which is the largest naturally occurring water body in the West Midlands, and its breeding bird assemblage. It is managed in conjunction with graziers, contractors and volunteers. Management activities include, tree and scrub management, fencing, management of a small herd of Exmoor ponies, maintenance of access features and control of invasive species.

Chartley Moss NNR is Britain’s largest example of a floating bog or ‘schwingmoor’. The majority of the site has been leased from a local landowner and managed as a NNR since 1963. It is managed in conjunction with contractors and volunteers. Management activities include tree and scrub management and control of invasive species.

Mottey Meadows NNR is an area of floodplain meadows, which have been managed as hay meadows for hundreds of years. The whole NNR is owned and managed by Natural England. The site has an extremely rich plant community, hosting over 240 species of flowers, grasses and sedges. It is managed in conjunction with graziers, contractors and volunteers. Management activities include maintenance of fencing, hedgerow management and control of invasive species.

In Cheshire, Wybunbury Moss NNR is a floating bog, which hosts many similar species to Chartley Moss, but also is the last English site to retain a population of the rare leaf beetle _Cryptocephalus decemmaculatus. _Rostherne Mere NNR is the largest, deepest and one of the least disturbed of the Cheshire meres. The site is extremely important for its wild bird population.
